Job description

GHS Musical Director
Stipend: $5,945
The GHS Musical Director is responsible for attending auditions, participating in casting, teaching the choral music to the company, securing musicians for the pit, preparing the pit musicians, and conducting the musical in performances.
Essential Responsibilities




  • Meeting with and discussing production selection and strategies with the director, technical director, and choreographer
  • Following the audition and rehearsal schedule set forth by the director
  • Attending auditions and helping with cast selection for the show
  • Teaching the actors/singers the music, usually 2-4 afternoons per week as set forth by the rehearsal schedule based on (approximately) February - Mayย production dates
  • Training the pit band/orchestra musicians on the music, usually 1-2 afternoons per week for 5 weeks
  • Contacting and hiring any professional musicians needed for the production
  • Playing for and leading the rehearsals daily for the 3 weeks prior to the opening of the musical
  • Conducting/leading the performances, usually 3-4 depending on the show selection
  • Working collaboratively with the director and choreographer to create musical cuts needed for the production

Qualifications

  • Piano skills (to play auditions and rehearsals)
  • Choral music knowledge to teach parts
  • Conducting skills
  • Musical knowledge to be able to prepare orchestra
  • Preference will be given to Greenwich Public Schools staff
