What is the difference between Orca vs Marine Biologist?

AspectOrcaMarine Biologist

Work EnvironmentMarine parks, aquariums, or research facilities; sometimes in the wildResearch vessels, laboratories, field sites, universities
Employer & Industry UsageMarine parks, aquariums, conservation organizationsUniversities, research institutes, government agencies

While Orcas are marine mammals often kept in captivity or studied in the wild, Marine Biologists are scientists who study marine life, including Orcas. Orcas are specific animals, whereas Marine Biologists are professionals conducting research on various marine species. Both roles may overlap in research settings, but their primary focus and credentials differ.

What are Orcas?

Orcas, also known as killer whales, are large marine mammals belonging to the dolphin family. They are highly intelligent, social animals found in oceans worldwide and are recognizable by their distinctive black-and-white coloring. Orcas are apex predators, meaning they sit at the top of the food chain and have diverse diets that can include fish, seals, and even whales. They live in complex social groups called pods and use sophisticated hunting techniques and vocal communications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Orca Trainer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Orca Trainer, you need a background in marine biology, animal behavior, or a related field, often with a bachelor's degree and experience working with marine mammals. Familiarity with operant conditioning techniques, safety protocols, and aquatic facility equipment is typically required. Patience, strong communication, and teamwork skills help trainers build trust with animals and coordinate effectively with colleagues. These competencies are vital to ensure both animal welfare and human safety in a demanding and specialized environment.

So if you're ready to join an amazing team of people who inspire each other every day, now is the time to find your place in our pod.

We're looking for driven and talented people like you to join our team and our mission to change the future of cloud security. Ready to dive in and swim with our pod?

Highlights:
  • High-growth: Over the past seven years, we've consistently achieved milestones that take other companies a decade or more. During this time, we've significantly grown our employee base, expanded our customer reach, and rapidly advanced our product capabilities.
  • Disruptive innovation: Our founders saw that traditional security didn't work for the cloud, so they set out to carve a new path. We're relentless pioneers who invented agentless technology and continue to be the most comprehensive and innovative cloud security company.
  • Well-capitalized: With a valuation of $1.8 billion, Orca is a cybersecurity unicorn dominating the cloud security space. We're backed by an impressive team of investors such as Capital G, ICONIQ, GGV, and SVCI, a syndicate of CISOs who invest their own money after conducting their due diligence.
  • Respectful and transparent culture: Our executives pride themselves on being accessible to everyone and believe in sharing knowledge with the employees. Each employee has a place in shaping the future of our industry.
About the Role:

The mission of the Public Relations Specialist is to help amplify Orca's story across media, analysts, and the broader cybersecurity community globally. Reporting to the VP Product Marketing and Communications, the PR Specialist is the day-to-day driver of our public relations programs across the US, Europe, and globally, working hand-in-hand with our external PR agencies to land coverage, elevate our executives and researchers, and keep Orca top of mind in a fast-moving industry. The ideal candidate thrives in a highly-visible role, juggling multiple workstreams across regions from breaking-news pitches to long-lead thought leadership, and knows how to get the most out of agency partnerships on a global scale.

What You'll Do:
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for Orca's PR agencies in the US, Europe, and globally, by setting priorities, reviewing deliverables, managing timelines, and ensuring agency work ladders up to company goals globally
  • Support media relations end to end across US and European markets: draft and edit press releases, pitches, briefing documents, and messaging; coordinate interviews; and manage rapid-response opportunities around breaking cybersecurity news
  • Amplify Orca's research and data: work with the Orca Research Pod and product teams to translate threat research, vulnerability discoveries, and cloud security reports into compelling media stories for global audiences
  • Drive thought leadership programs: manage bylines, contributed articles, awards submissions, and speaking opportunities for Orca executives and subject-matter experts across US and European outlets and events
  • Prepare spokespeople with briefing materials, talking points, and media training support
  • Track, measure, and report on PR performance across regions to provide coverage quality, share of voice, message pull-through, and use insights to sharpen our global programs
  • Coordinate PR support for company milestones: product launches, funding and partnership announcements, events, and industry conferences across the US and Europe (e.g., RSA, Black Hat, Infosecurity Europe)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with content, demand gen, product marketing, and analyst relations to keep messaging consistent across channels and geographies
Who You Are:
  • 3+ years of PR experience in B2B technology related to cybersecurity, cloud, or enterprise software strongly preferred; agency or in-house backgrounds both welcome
  • Experience running PR programs across both US and European markets, including coordinating with regional agencies and navigating different media landscapes
  • Proven experience managing PR agency relationships and holding partners accountable to outcomes
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn technical topics into clear, newsworthy stories for diverse global audiences
  • Strong instincts for what makes a story land and the hustle to move fast when news breaks
  • Strong project management skills: comfortable running multiple concurrent programs across regions with competing deadlines
  • Self-starter mentality suited to a remote role in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Bonus Points if You Have:
  • Existing relationships with cybersecurity and business/tech media in the US and/or Europe
  • Experience promoting security research or data-driven reports
  • Experience supporting executive visibility and awards programs
What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Discounted medical, dental, and vision benefits with significant employer contribution
  • Benefits coverage starting on your first day of employment
  • Generous PTO with U.S. holidays observed and flexible hybrid & remote work environments
  • Your choice of Mac or Windows laptop
  • Work-from-home stipend to be used in your first month of employment
