Your Opportunity:

The Stollery Children's Hospital is the primary acute care center for children in the Edmonton area and the referral center for the Western Canadian Heart Network and receives approximately 450 children/year post open-heart surgery, making it the second busiest congenital heart surgery program in Canada. It is the ECMO/VAD referral site for most of Western Canada. The PCICU at the Stollery Children's Hospital is dedicated to the provision of the state- of- the -art care to critically ill children up to 18 years of age. Since it opened in 2001, the Stollery has developed as a specialized site with expertise and programs to ensure children who require inpatient services receive the best possible care. Highly- skilled child health professionals from around the world have made the Stollery a well- recognized center for specialized pediatric services. As part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse (RN) collaborates with other team members to provide the best care possible. The Registered Nurse primarily strives to help their patients reach realistic health care goals through appropriate assessments, intervention, implementation of appropriate goals of care, documentation and evaluation. The incumbent performs nursing duties in accordance with clinical policies and nursing care standards.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of the Pediatric Critical Care Orientation: requirements are 80% pass on a comprehensive orientation exam and 90% pass on a medication exam.

Preferred Qualifications:

Critical care experience preferred. Pediatric experience preferred.
