What is an oral surgery faculty?

Oral Surgery Faculty are professionals who teach, mentor, and conduct research in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery at dental schools or academic medical centers. They are typically experienced oral surgeons who supervise students and residents, design curriculum, and contribute to advancements in surgical techniques. Their responsibilities often include both clinical care and academic duties, helping to train the next generation of oral surgeons.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an oral surgery faculty member, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Oral Surgery Faculty member, you need advanced clinical expertise in oral and maxillofacial surgery, a DDS/DMD degree, board certification, and experience in academic teaching or research. Familiarity with surgical simulation tools, electronic health records, and accreditation standards is typically required. Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills set outstanding faculty apart by fostering student growth and collaboration. These skills are vital to ensure high-quality education, safe patient care, and advancement of the oral surgery field.
