Job description

Job Summary:
ClifyX is seeking a Solaris Systems Engineer – Level III. The role involves analyzing business requirements and designing specifications, providing technical leadership, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction while managing complex system installations and administration.
Responsibilities:
• Analyzes functional business requirements and design specifications for functional activities.
• Should provide identification/fixing for the problems within existing systems design/implementation of new systems, enhances the existing systems and participates in analysis, design and new construction of next generation IT systems.
• Responsible for understanding the needs of the customers and the realities of commercially available IT products, and creating requirements that will allow implementation by the architecture and engineering team and COTS products.
• Must possess experience of system engineering in one or more areas including telecommunications concepts, computer languages, operating systems, database/DBMS and middleware.
• Solaris 10 and Solaris 11/UNIX Subject Matter Expert with at least 7 years of multi-vendor UNIX engineering, implementation and administration.
• Proficient with Zones, LDOMS, ZFS, Vswitches and other relevant Solaris technology implementation on Oracle SPARC hardware.
• Needs to also be proficient with Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 5 and 6, including kickstart, lvm, package management, udev rules, etc.
• Participate in rotating shift/on call coverage, as needed to support organizational goals for 24x7 Data Center Operations.
• Responsible for driving technical service resolution and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Acts as a lead customer issue resolution engineer and takes ownership of all assigned tickets, including customer communication on appropriate developments and progress.
• Coordinates with management to formulate highly complex technical solutions and keeps up to date on technical support products.
• Identifies and implements solutions based on client needs.
• Provides technical leadership to internal and external personnel on highly complex system installation and administration activities.
• Provides technical solutions and escalated support for non-routine, highly complex technical issues.
• Evaluates products and upgrades for appropriateness of cost and compatibility.
• Oversees and implements system upgrade strategies.
• Develops and analyzes highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance. Initiates reviews as appropriate.
• Develops strategies to manage the frequency of appropriate support package/patch application.
• Monitors system maintenance and provides appropriate recommendations, when required. Implements solutions and refines procedures as appropriate.
• Coordinates with business development personnel on proposals and work estimates involving highly complex system administration projects and solutions.
• Researches current systems technology and serves as subject matter expert on complex systems, processes and procedures.
• Performs troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems; documents system events to ensure continuous functioning.
• Utilizes standard tools to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes.
• Works closely with team members on testing, upgrades and configuration of system and services.
• Evaluates and ensures changes are in accordance with appropriate operating procedures; recommends revisions or changes based upon results.
• Monitors operating system tasks, which includes memory and processor utilization.
• Conducts operational and possible faults checks.
• Resolves matters of significance and implements corrective course of action as needed.
• Acts as a mentor to other engineers, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Master's Degree or higher
• >15 years of experience
• Solaris 10 and Solaris 11/UNIX Subject Matter Expert with at least 7 years of multi-vendor UNIX engineering, implementation and administration.

• Experience creating and modifying Solaris 10 zones and ldoms.
• Experience implementing live update on Solaris 10.
• Experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 servers.
Preferred:
• Experience Managing LDAP and Kerberos Domains in a UNIX environment.
• Managing linux virtual machines in a VMware environment.
• Significant scripting experience in bash, ksh, python, perl, etc.
