Job description

A fixed asset accountant manages long-term physical property, recording asset purchases, tracking depreciation, and performing monthly reconciliations across multiple locations and companies. This role ensures financial records follow standard accounting rules and helps with internal and external audits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Asset Tracking: Research new property, equipment, or software purchases with communicating with other departments on the in service and life to create asset cards.
  • Depreciation: Calculate and post monthly depreciation schedules and useful life metrics.
  • Disposals & Transfers: Process asset retirements, sales, or transfers between company locations.
  • Reconciliations: Match sub-ledger balances to the general ledger during month-end close.
  • Capital vs. Expense: Review purchase requests to decide if costs should be capitalized or expensed.
  • SOX Controls: Complete and update fixed assets controls on a timely bases
  • Auditing: Prepare reports and support external/internal audits and tax filings.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of general ledger or fixed asset accounting experience.
  • Software Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems like Business Central, SAP, Oracle, or JDEdwards.
  • Knowledge Base: Understanding of GAAP/IFRS rules and capitalization thresholds.
