What is an Oracle EBS developer?

An Oracle EBS developer creates business solutions using proprietary E-Business Suite software from Oracle. As an Oracle EBS developer, your duties include analyzing data and developing recommendations for sales, management, production, and shipping departments. Oracle EBS developers typically work closely with other company professionals to meet specific goals for the department and document their progress and development. The career qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. You must also understand how to use Oracle software development products, which you can learn through undergraduate work, on-the-job training, or Oracle certification coursework. Additional qualifications include knowledge of programming languages like SQL and XML, as well as the ability to work as part of a team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Oracle EBS developer?

To thrive as an Oracle EBS Developer, you need strong programming skills in SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle Forms/Reports, along with a solid understanding of Oracle E-Business Suite modules and a relevant bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Oracle Workflow, OA Framework, and experience using version control systems and Oracle Application Framework (OAF) is typically required. Analytical thinking, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities are critical soft skills that help in translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure robust system customizations, seamless integrations, and efficient support for business processes within complex enterprise environments.

What are the typical challenges faced by an Oracle EBS developer when working on system customizations and integrations?

Oracle EBS Developers often encounter challenges related to understanding complex legacy customizations, ensuring compatibility with new EBS versions, and maintaining system performance during integrations. Balancing the need for customization with best practices for upgradability and support can be demanding. Collaboration with business analysts and end-users is essential for gathering requirements, while close coordination with DBAs and other developers helps ensure smooth deployment and minimal disruption to business operations.
