Data Migration Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Migration Specialist with deep experience in SQL Server, Oracle, SQL scripting, and data mapping. This role is responsible for executing complex data migrations involving large data sets across heterogeneous database environments. You will work closely with database administrators, developers, and business analysts to ensure high-quality and accurate data transfers using scripting and modern ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) tools or equivalent data movement platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute data migration strategies to transfer data from legacy or source systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server) to target environments.
  • Develop and maintain SQL scripts and stored procedures to support transformation, cleansing, and loading of data.
  • Perform thorough data mapping between source and destination schemas, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and business rules.
  • Validate data accuracy, completeness, and integrity post-migration using automated and manual techniques.
  • Support testing efforts by preparing data sets and participating in system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Document all migration processes, scripts, and procedures for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Utilize ELT tools, database utilities, or third-party migration platforms to automate and optimize data movement.
  • Monitor and report on progress, challenges, and results of migration activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve migration processes for efficiency and repeatability.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in data migration, database scripting, and data transformation.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with SQL Server and Oracle databases.
  • Proficiency in SQL scripting, including complex joins, functions, stored procedures, triggers, and indexing.
  • Experience with data mapping, schema comparisons, and reconciliation processes.
  • Experience working with large datasets and handling performance considerations.
  • Familiarity with ELT/ETL tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Informatica, Talend, etc.).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve data migration issues effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in regulated environments (e.g., healthcare, financial, forensic).
  • Familiarity with Azure-based data tools or cloud database services.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python for automation.
