The Consultant Development Program (CDP) is an Early Careers program for recent college graduates who are interested in developing and deploying problem-solving and presentation skills with health care clients. The Consultant Development Program sits within Optum Advisory and allows for early career professionals to experience a diversity of health care clients through a variety of engagements. CDP participants will work with Advisory Board teams across a variety of functions including research and client services to support top business priorities, while simultaneously receiving mentorship and formal training in key consulting competencies. Program completion includes alignment into a full-time Advisory Board role and typically takes 1.5-2.5 years to complete.

**The full-time position located in Eden Prairie, MN, Nashville, TN or Washington, DC will be available starting in Summer 2026**

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with our internal and external clients to help determine needs and solve complex business problems by performing the following types of activities:
  • Serve as the first point of contact for client requests and respond to inquiries in timely and efficient manner. Examples of requests include: scheduling and setting up client trainings on resources available through portfolio, providing access to research publications and website resources, and facilitating introductions to research staff
  • Produce reports analyzing previous client interaction and utilization of products and services
  • Develop and support in the delivery of client facing presentations
  • Strategically build campaigns to determine which individuals and organizations we should reach out to using a combination of past interactions, marketing intel, organizational relationships, national news, upcoming events, new best practices, etc.
  • Drive toward monthly metric-based key performance indicators (KPIs), such as number of meetings, pipeline generation, orientation and check-in calls, and Salesforce data integrity
  • Customize and refine outreach scripting by updating content, urgency, script length, outreach method, etc., and own sending to key clients and prospects, with the aim of maximizing our outreach to meeting conversion
  • Track strategy effectiveness and make adjustment recommendations  
  • Support the success of Advisory Board's key products including expert support, syndicated research, custom research, and sponsorship
  • Navigate client facing interactions, presentations and relationship building in scenarios of project delivery, social situations, research, and at times ambiguity
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders by using clear, concise and effective written and oral communication
  • Advisory Board provides support to a wide range of health care clients. Some commercially-focused example projects might include:
  • Engaging directly with Advisory Board members (clients) to provide expert support, answer their questions, and demonstrate the value of Advisory Board research to meet their strategic goals and priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree earned within the past 24 months from an accredited college/university; coursework to obtain degree must be completed prior to start of employment and verified within 6-8 weeks following the date at your school
  • Demonstrated business acumen and basic data analysis experience
  • Ability to work in office on a hybrid schedule (2 days home/3 days in office) in one of our 3 locations (Eden Prairie, MN, Nashville, TN or Washington, DC) for the duration of the program
  • Ability to Travel up to  25% for the Consultant Development Program, dependent on project needs and location
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered) F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship is not available for this position.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $60,200 to $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
