Optometry Part Time information

What is optometry part time?

Optometry part time refers to working as an optometrist but on a reduced or flexible schedule, rather than the traditional full-time hours. Part-time optometrists perform the same duties as full-time optometrists, such as conducting eye exams, diagnosing vision problems, and prescribing corrective lenses, but typically work fewer days or hours per week. This arrangement can be ideal for professionals seeking work-life balance, those nearing retirement, or individuals with other commitments. Employment opportunities for part-time optometrists may be found in private practices, retail optical stores, clinics, or mobile services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time optometrist?

To thrive as a part-time optometrist, you need a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree, state licensure, and expertise in eye examinations and vision care. Familiarity with diagnostic tools like autorefractors, phoropters, and electronic health record (EHR) systems is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and time management set outstanding practitioners apart in this role. These abilities ensure accurate diagnoses, effective patient communication, and efficient use of limited work hours for optimal patient outcomes.

What are some typical challenges faced by part-time optometrists, and how can they be addressed?

Part-time optometrists often navigate challenges such as building consistent patient relationships, staying current with practice updates, and managing a variable schedule. To address these, clear communication with clinic staff and other optometrists is essential to ensure patient continuity and seamless care. Staying organized, proactively seeking out professional development opportunities, and using digital health records can help maintain high standards of care and keep you connected with the team, even when working limited hours.

What is the difference between Optometry Part Time vs Optometry Full Time?

Optometry Part Time roles typically involve fewer hours and may suit those seeking flexible schedules, while Optometry Full Time positions offer more consistent hours and responsibilities. Both roles require the same credentials and are found in similar work environments, making them suitable for licensed optometrists at different employment preferences.

Part-time Optometrist (Fields of Vision) - Brick, NJ

Vision Service Plan

Red Bank, NJ

Part-time

Re-posted 29 days ago

Job description

A part-time opportunity for an Optometrist is available at Fields of Vision, located in Brick, New Jersey on Thursdays between 11 a.m.-7 p.m.!

Why you should apply

Fields of Vision has an excellent opportunity for an Optometrist who wants to supplement their income or someone who wants to focus on patient care without the overhead burden of managing a practice. If you're a well-rounded professional interested in a long-term, part-time opportunity with a well-established private practice, this is the perfect opportunity.

Brick is located at the Jersey Shore and offers the perfect blend of beach-town living and exciting nearby city life. No matter the time of year, there's never a shortage of activities or opportunities to explore the East Coast's rich history. There's something for everyone to enjoy with an abundance of beaches, boardwalks, mini golf, amusement parks, arcades, an aquarium, and amazing pizza. Brick's proximity to the Jersey Shore enables residents to enjoy miles of pristine shorelines all year round. Everything this quaint town has to offer, plus easy access to New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., makes this area a wonderful place to practice and call home.

About Fields of Vision

Established in 1993, Fields of Vision is dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care services to patients and residents throughout Central New Jersey. The practice offers a wide range of services, including thorough eye exams for prescription eyewear and contact lenses, ocular disease management, and surgical co-management for cataracts and LASIK. Patients can expect a welcoming and positive experience accompanied by individual eye care solutions and education on achieving the best eye health. To continue providing excellent patient care, the business is looking to add an Optometrist to the team of five professionals.

The practice strongly focuses on patient-centric care and partners with other medical practitioners to address the patient's total health. To ensure patients receive the best care possible, the optometric support team utilizes a suite of advanced technology, including a total refraction system, retinal photos, non-contact tonometer, and cloud-based software to manage electronic health records and monitor ocular changes over time. The optical department features a large selection of contact lenses and frames, with styles, brands, and colors to suit every face and preference.

About the Optometrist Position

Fields of Vision is seeking an Optometrist passionate about providing the highest level of individualized and personalized care to help patients achieve the clearest position possible. You'll provide comprehensive vision care services, recommend vision-enhancing solutions, including contact lenses, and promote good eye health through patient education; on average, two comprehensive exams are performed hourly. The position is part-time, on Thursdays from 11am - 7pm. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who values a work/life balance, looking for a solid, long-term position to supplement income without the responsibilities of managing a practice.

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate leadership, excellent patient communication skills, interpersonal skills, and compassion for patient health and safety. In addition, the ideal candidate will have an excellent clinical skillset, a desire for continued learning, the ability to grasp new technologies efficiently, and a passion for helping those in need.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Optometry license in the state of New Jersey
