Job description

We are seeking a friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented Insurance Verification & Patient Services Specialist to join our Communications Department at Eyecare Associates of Idaho. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring patients receive accurate insurance information before their appointments.
Responsibilities include verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, answering incoming calls for multiple clinic locations, scheduling appointments, assisting patients with questions, and maintaining accurate patient information. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask while delivering exceptional service with every patient interaction.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:30am-5:30pm and Friday 8am-3:30pm ResponsibilitiesPatient Access and Insurance Specialist job responsibilities include:
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, authorizations, and coverage prior to appointments.
  • Research insurance eligibility and benefits, prepare patient insurance breakdown paperwork, and communicate coverage information accurately to patients and staff.
  • Answer a high volume of incoming calls for multiple clinic locations while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments according to clinic guidelines.
  • Update and verify patient demographics, insurance information, and account details in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Route calls and messages to the appropriate department or provider in a timely manner.
  • Assist patients with insurance, billing, and appointment-related questions.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical, billing, and front office teams to ensure accurate information and seamless patient care.
  • Identify and resolve insurance discrepancies by contacting insurance carriers as needed.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and efficiency.
Required SkillsPatient Access and Insurance Specialist required skills & qualifications include:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous medical office or customer service experience preferred (optometry/ophthalmology a plus)
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional, friendly, and patient-centered attitude
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with data entry
  • Comfortable using computers, scheduling systems, and learning EHR software
  • Strong time management skills and reliability (attendance and punctuality are a must)
