Job description

Micro-Tronics, Inc. (MTI) is seeking a CNC Machinist II who is responsible for safely setting up and operating multiple CNC machines to manufacture precision aerospace components while demonstrating cross-functional proficiency in CNC Lathes and CNC Mills. This role requires strong blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and advanced inspection skills to troubleshoot processes, ensure product quality, and maintain efficient production. The CNC Machinist II supports operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Setup & Operation
  • Set up and operate CNC Lathes and CNC Mills with minimal supervision.
  • Safely operate machining equipment while following company safety standards.
  • Perform machining operations in accordance with work instructions, process sheets, and engineering specifications.
  • Machine a variety of common aerospace materials while maintaining process consistency.
  • Troubleshoot machining processes through approved tooling, program, and machine control adjustments.
  • Deburr, clean, and package finished parts to prevent handling damage.

Quality & Inspection
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Utilize manual inspection tools, optical comparators, microscopes, and other quality equipment.
  • Monitor product quality and report nonconforming materials or processes to the Lead or Supervisor.
  • Maintain a scrap rate below established departmental goals.

Equipment & Production Tracking
  • Complete and document daily and weekly preventative maintenance using MaintainX.
  • Record machine performance and production data using Machine Metrics.
  • Accurately log setup times, production quantities, downtime, and nonconforming product in job tracking systems.
  • Maintain efficient, repeatable machining processes that support production goals.

Continuous Improvement
  • Follow company 5S standards to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to improve quality, productivity, and setup efficiency.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Attend company meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Trade school, vocational training, or completion of a four-year apprenticeship with one year of related work experience may be considered in lieu of a High School Diploma or GED.

Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of CNC setup and operation experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of precision machining experience.
  • Experience machining aerospace or precision components preferred.
  • Experience operating multi-axis CNC equipment.
  • Experience with live tooling; sub-spindle experience preferred.
  • Experience using Fanuc controls required.
  • Experience with Doosan, HAAS, and Brother CNC machines preferred.
  • Basic CAD/CAM exposure preferred.

Required Skills & Competencies
  • Proficient in CNC machine setup and operation.
  • Strong understanding of G-Code and M-Code programming.
  • Knowledge of tool geometry and tool wear offsets.
  • Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation.
  • Strong precision measurement and inspection skills.
  • Experience using:
    • Calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Optical Comparators
    • Microscopes
    • Other manual inspection equipment
  • Practical application of machine shop mathematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must possess the personal tooling required to perform job functions.

  • Reduce setup times and meet or exceed departmental setup reduction goals.

  • Complete production assignments within scheduled timeframes while meeting quality standards.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Ability to use carts, ladders, dollies, and stools to move materials.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate CNC machinery, inspection equipment, and computers.
  • Visual ability to inspect precision components, read blueprints, and operate machinery safely.
  • Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with OSHA regulations.
