What are Optician Assistants?

Optician Assistants are professionals who support opticians and optometrists in eye care practices. They help customers choose eyeglass frames and lenses, perform basic vision tests, handle appointments, and manage administrative tasks like billing and record-keeping. While they don't perform eye exams, they play an essential role in ensuring patients receive the right eyewear and have a positive experience. These skills ensure accurate eyewear fittings, positive patient experiences, and smooth clinic operations.

Do you need to be certified to be an ophthalmic assistant?

Optician assistants typically do not need formal certification to perform their duties, but certification can enhance job prospects and demonstrate competence.
