Job Purpose:

The Senior Semiconductor Test Engineer leads the development, optimization, and long-term sustainment of advanced test processes for semiconductor devices, with a strong emphasis on high power laser diode technologies. This role drives technical strategy, mentors junior engineers, and ensures robust, scalable test solutions that support both high volume manufacturing and new product introduction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and lead test process development for semiconductor devices including laser diode chips, bars, arrays, and integrated assemblies.
  • Serve as the primary technical expert for troubleshooting complex test and yield issues across production lines.
  • Perform advanced data analysis to characterize device performance, identify systemic issues, and drive long‑term improvements.
  • Lead validation and implementation of design changes, ensuring test readiness, documentation accuracy, and process stability.
  • Partner with R&D, Product Development, and Operations to guide new product introduction (NPI) from prototype through full‑scale manufacturing.
  • Architect and optimize automated test equipment (ATE), fixtures, and software to improve throughput, accuracy, and repeatability.
  • Drive yield improvement and cost‑reduction initiatives, identifying failure modes and recommending design or process enhancements.
  • Champion best practices in test methodology, statistical process control (SPC), and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and training.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and reliability standards across all test operations.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in semiconductor device testing, optoelectronics, or laser diode characterization.
  • Proven ability to diagnose complex test issues and implement engineering‑level solutions.
  • Strong background with automated test systems, data acquisition, and statistical analysis tools.
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics and optical/electrical performance metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated success working cross‑functionally.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with high‑power laser diodes, photonics packaging, or reliability testing.
  • Proficiency in test automation programming (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++).
  • Hands‑on experience with DOE, SPC, FMEA, and other structured problem‑solving methodologies.
  • Familiarity with high‑volume manufacturing environments and continuous improvement frameworks.
