Optical Representative information

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an optical representative and how do they interact with customers and the clinical team?

As an Optical Representative, your daily responsibilities include assisting customers in selecting eyewear that fits their prescription, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences. You will perform fittings and adjustments, process orders, and sometimes handle basic repairs. Collaboration is key, as you work closely with optometrists and technicians to ensure accurate prescription fulfillment and provide a seamless experience for patients. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll be educating customers about lens options and frame features while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

What is an optical representative?

Optical Representatives are professionals who assist customers in selecting eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other optical products. They typically work in optical stores or eye care clinics, providing information on frame styles, lens options, and pricing. Optical Representatives also help with fitting eyewear, verifying prescriptions, and processing orders. Their role combines customer service skills with a basic understanding of optical products and vision care. They may also handle administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments and managing inventory.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an optical representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Optical Representative, you need a solid understanding of optical products, vision care, and sales techniques, often supported by on-the-job training or certification in opticianry. Familiarity with optical dispensing software, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and basic lens fitting equipment is commonly required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, active listening, and the ability to educate customers set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate product recommendations, customer satisfaction, and effective sales performance in a retail optical environment.

What is the difference between Optical Representative vs Optician?

While both roles involve the optical industry, an Optical Representative primarily focuses on sales and promoting optical products to clients, whereas an Optician is involved in fitting and dispensing eyewear. The roles differ in credentials, work environment, and daily responsibilities, but both require knowledge of optical products and industry standards.

Job description

Outside Sales Rep – Fiber Internet (OKC) – $2,500–$3,000/week + Earning Potential

Onyx Fiber | Oklahoma Statewide | Commission Sales, Uncapped

Build a real income doing work that actually matters

Onyx Fiber is bringing high-speed fiber internet and smart home service to homeowners across Oklahoma — and we need people on the ground to make it happen. If you're driven, coachable, and tired of a job that pays the same no matter how hard you work, this is built for you.

No degree. No experience. We train you from day one.

What you'll actually do

  • Meet homeowners face-to-face in Oklahoma neighborhoods and walk them through fiber and smart home options

  • Help people switch from slow, unreliable service to something better

  • Manage your own pipeline —we provide warm leads, you schedule installs and follow-ups

  • Represent a growing local company you can be proud to talk about.

What you'll earn

  • 100% commission, paid weekly on closed sales — $100-$200 per closed sale

  • Our reps typically close 20-25 deals per week once ramped up, putting average earnings around $2,500-$3,000/week

  • No ceiling —our best reps are writing their own paycheck

  • Clear, performance-based path to Team Lead and management

Is this the right fit?

This is 1099 commission-only work — we're upfront about that because we want reps who go in with eyes open and thrive here, not people who feel misled on day one. It rewards people who are:

  • 18+, with reliable transportation

  • Comfortable being on your feet outdoors for a full shift

  • A strong talker who can also listen

  • Self-motivated — nobody's clocking you in, but nobody's capping your check either

  • Coachable — we'll teach you the sales skills, you bring the hustle

Why reps stick around

  • Real sales training, not a "figure it out yourself" onboarding

  • A supportive team and mentorship, not just a 1099 and a "good luck"

  • Fast-growing company with a great reputation — real room to move into leadership

  • Transferable sales skills you'll use for the rest of your career

This isn't for everyone. But if you want a job where your effort directly shows up in your paycheck, we want to talk to you.

Apply below to schedule an interview this week.
