Job description

Job Description
At Oracle, we are building next-generation cloud infrastructure at scale. As a Principal Hardware Engineer, you will play a critical role in validating and qualifying high-performance networking hardware used in Oracle Cloud. This position requires deep expertise in hardware test methodologies, optical interfaces, and system-level debugging to ensure reliability and performance in large-scale deployments.
Responsibilities
- Lead hardware validation and qualification efforts for networking systems, including Ethernet switches and optical interconnects
- Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans for functional, stress, and system-level validation
- Perform deep debug and root cause analysis of hardware issues, including BER failures, link instability, and signal integrity problems
- Validate high-speed interfaces and optical links, ensuring performance and compliance with design specifications
- Utilize lab instrumentation such as BERT analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, and related tools for failure analysis and characterization
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware design, firmware, and manufacturing teams to drive issue resolution and product quality
- Contribute to test automation, coverage improvement, and validation efficiency
- Ensure hardware meets industry standards and interoperability requirements for deployment in Oracle Cloud infrastructure
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers within the team
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong experience in hardware testing and validation of networking platforms, particularly switches and high-speed systems
- Hands-on expertise in testing and debugging optical components and links (transceivers, fiber optics)
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve BER issues, link stability problems, and signal integrity challenges
- Experience with lab equipment including BERT analyzers, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers
- Solid understanding of high-speed digital design, SerDes technologies, and Ethernet-based networking
- Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., Python) for test development is a plus
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, with a strong focus on hardware validation, testing, or system bring-up
- Significant industry experience in hardware test engineering, validation, or debug of high-speed systems
