Job description

In This Industry, the Truth Has a Tolerance Band. Ours Is Zero.

Telecom Calibration Technician

Avalon Test Equipment  |  Carlsbad, CA or Dallas, TX  |  Full-Time

$25.00 – $40.00 per hour, based on experience

Why Avalon?

“In This Industry, the Truth Has a Tolerance Band. Ours Is Zero.” — That’s not just a tagline. It’s our standard we try to reach every single day.

At Avalon Test Equipment, our culture is rooted in truth and integrity — in the lab, with our customers, and with each other. Our team drives that culture, and we’re proud of it. When a technician signs off on a calibration certificate here, it means something. There’s no rounding up, no cutting corners, no fudging the data. The number is right, or we don’t sign it.

We’re not just another test and measurement company — we’re the team keeping the telecommunications, aerospace, military, semiconductor, and automotive industries running precisely. Accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ANSI/NCSL Z540.1, technical excellence is our baseline, not our goal.

If you hold yourself to the same standard — and want to work alongside people who do too — you’ll fit right in here.

Who we find succeeds in this role?

People with hands-on field experience with telecom test and measurement equipment, RF Calibration Technicians, Electricians, Electrical Engineers

What You’ll Do

You’ll be hands-on every day, keeping precision instruments sharp and our customers’ operations running. That means:

•       Calibrating test and measurement equipment across RF, Optical, and Mechanical disciplines — applying your knowledge of electronics, physics, and measurement science to ensure every reading counts

•       Troubleshooting and repairing out-of-tolerance equipment through adjustments, component replacement, and correction factors

•       Documenting your work — preparing calibration reports, certificates, and maintaining accurate records that our ISO accreditation depends on

•       Supporting customers — phone support for rental customers, on-site visits, and occasional multi-week travel (up to 50%)

•       Working alongside a sharp lab team — learning from senior techs, sharing your own expertise, and growing your skills every day

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be perfect — you need to be curious, precise, and committed to doing it right.

Required:

•       High school diploma or equivalent

•       3+ year of hands-on electronics test & measurement experience

•       Solid math and algebra skills, and a basic grasp of statistics

•       Good written and verbal communication skills

•       Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

•       A self-starter mindset and a team-first attitude

Preferred:

•       3+ years of experience in the Telecom industry

•       Familiarity with Quality Management Systems

The Physical Reality

We want you prepared for the real environment:

•       Frequent standing, sitting, and use of hands and fingers

•       Lifting up to 65 lbs

•       Working near mechanical and electrical equipment

•       Climate-controlled lab environment with occasional exposure to heat/cold

•       Occasional driving and air travel required

What We Offer

We take care of our people. Period.

•       $25.00 – $40.00/hour, based on experience

•       Medical, Dental & Vision insurance

•       Life Insurance & Disability coverage

•       401(k)

•       Vacation, Sick Time & Paid Holidays

•       Monday – Friday schedule
