As an Assistant Manager, Lab Engineering (Night Shift), this role provides leadership for the onsite lab support team in Ottawa and enables operational continuity for offshore lab users, primarily Product Verification and Software Design teams in India. The position plays a key role in maintaining lab infrastructure, equipment availability, and responsive support services within Ciena laboratories. Work schedules align with the India work week, statutory holiday calendar, and designated night-shift coverage requirements.

How you will make an impact:

  • Lead the onsite lab support team and coordinate daily operational activities within the Ottawa lab environment.
  • Assign tasks, establish objectives, monitor processes, and evaluate operational results.
  • Deliver feedback, training, mentoring, and onboarding guidance for team members.
  • Establish new processes and procedures and collaborate with management on team objectives and priorities.
  • Manage project, program, and team coordination activities and provide operational reports to senior management.
  • Resolve lab support requests, investigate infrastructure and equipment issues, and perform troubleshooting activities across lab systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of support requests and guide the lab user community on lab processes and procedures.

The must haves:

  • Education: Minimum College Diploma as a Technician.
  • Experience: 6+ years related work experience with post-secondary training and job-related training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of R&D lab environments.
  • Ability to work core India hours, 10 pm -10 am EST, and other shifts as required, following the Ciena India work schedule and vacation times.

Nice to haves:

  • Application of knowledge related to Ciena Optical Products.
  • Utilization of corporate tools such as JIRA and GEMS.

Pay Range:
The annual pay range for this position in Canada is $75, 800 - $121, 200
A night-shift premium will also be added to the pay.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
