Job description

Principal Optical Engineer (2 positions) with expertise taking optical imaging system concepts from design through development, optimization and production.


Specific lens design required, particulary zoom lenses.


Since these devices are for DoD end-users, candidates must US citizens or permanent residents


Primary duties:

  • Develop optical architectures per stds. for MTF, distortion, field of view, resolution & stray light control
  • Tolerance analysis and manufacturability assessments
  • Work with MEs/EEs/Systems Engineers on system integration
  • Create optical specs and documentation for suppliers/internal teams
  • Support prototype builds, optical testing, process development, and design validation
  • Interface with Optical/Mfg. vendors for lens fabrication, coatings, and assembly
  • Troubleshoot optical performance during development and production
  • Help improve optical design method/tools


Required

  • BS/MS/PhD in Optical Eng, Physics, Applied Optics
  • 7+ years of lens design/optical system development
  • Geometrical/physical optics, aberration theory, optical tolerancing & stray light/ghost analysis
  • Strong coding experience - Zemax, OpticStudio, Matlab


Preferred

  • IR systems (SWIR / MWIR / LWIR)
  • Support production optics, yield improvement, and precision alignment
  • Optical testing (interferometry, MTF)
  • Previous experience working within a stringently regulated industry
