Job Summary
IPG Photonics in Oxford, MA is looking for an R&D technician to assist its daily operations with testing and manufacture of laser systems, as well as with ongoing R&D projects.
This is a hands-on position in a R&D laboratory that implies the general knowledge of optical and opto-mechanical components, the principle of their operation, and basic optics handling and cleaning skills. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a good hand-eye coordination and strong attention to detail. The successful candidate is expected to be systematic and organized, be capable of maintain proper records and documentation, and become proficient with a variety of analytical instrumentation (power meters, beam profilers, spectrometers, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.).
The technician is to be primarily responsible for:
Duties:
  • Assembly of precision opto-mechanical and optical sub-assemblies
  • Inspection and testing of incoming optics.
  • Testing of optical assemblies to ensure compliance to the required
  • Supplements Precision Assembly work center during periods of insufficient capacity
  • Assists in the generation of new product or sub-assembly documentation and work instructions
  • Provides feedback to engineering regarding errors or omissions in existing documentation
  • Assists in the completion of ERP work order paperwork for proper processing and costing of jobs
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in optics, engineering, physics or related technical disciplines, from a two-year college or a higher-education technical school;
  • Ability to handle precision opto-mechanical components;
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and read optical and mechanical schematics;
  • Previous Cleanroom experience
  • Proficient computer skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office (spreadsheets, word processing);
  • Good technical writing skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills

The pay range on this posting applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location posted, the applicable range could differ.
