SUMMARY   
The Service Activation Engineer I is responsible for the deployment of Cable One's Enterprise Fiber Technologies using an advanced skillset in the daily configuration, Deployment and troubleshooting of the Ciena, Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, and IP Infusion switch and router platforms for the delivery of our CDS (Commercial Data Service) offerings which includes: BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), Cellular Backhaul, DIA (Direct Internet Access), EPL (Ethernet Private Line) and Type2 (Carrier circuits).
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
Set forth below is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities (or "essential functions") of this position. 
  • Configures switches and routers to ensure remote engineering accessibility for customer activations.
  • Works remotely with local technicians to install new CPE (Customer Premise Equipment), headend, and hub equipment.
  • Reviews Network Design and oversees hardware logistics for Enterprise Fiber projects.
  • Works directly with customers to ensure acceptance of Cellular Backhaul, DIA, EPL and Type2 circuits. 
  • Partners with local technicians to upgrade existing switching, routing, and optical platforms. (Lifecycle management.)
  • Deploys new status monitoring equipment to support business circuits.
  • Supports the Business NOC team with customer installation issues.
  • Works with continuous delivery deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Associate's degree (A.A.) from four-year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Entry level routing and/or optical certification required. The equivalent in related work experience and self-study may be substituted.
  • Associate level routing, switching and/or optical certification preferred. 
 
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Familiarity with Change Control and Method of Procedure processes preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Metro Ethernet design concepts and delivery methods preferred.
  • Strong understanding of BGP, IEEE 802.1Q, Spanning Tree, MPLS and OSPF preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Visio.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • A self-starter with sound problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have solid interpersonal and organizational skills.  
  • Position may require up to 10% travel.
