York’s complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York’s existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We’re looking to expand our team across the board.

York Space Systems is looking for Electro-Optical (EO) Engineer s with 0 - 4 years of experience.

York EO Engineers work closely with our technology partners and internal subsystems for ensuring optical communications systems are actualized . The ideal candidate looks forward to being a focal point for successful cross-disciplinary integration of optical communication systems .

As an EO E ngineer at York, you will experience the full optical communications system life cycle from proposal to on-orbit commissioning, with a mixture of hands-on hardware activities and at the desk systems engineering work , directly contributing to making on-orbit laser links .

This is a systems integrator role that is highly vendor facing, not a design role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive the full systems engineering development lifecycle for optical communication systems
  • Perform trade studies on optical communication system capabilities to meet customer requirements
  • Develop optical communications link budgets
  • Determine optical communication specifications in accordance with spacecraft designs, customer requirements, optical analysis, and industry standards
  • Support requirement decomposition and allocation regarding optical communication systems
  • Develop and maintain standard systems engineering products in support of major engineering program reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, PSR, etc.)
  • Oversee the delivery of optical communication systems from our suppliers
  • Support test execution and troubleshooting involving optical communication systems utilizing optical test equipment
  • Drive cross-vendor interoperability assessments and troubleshooting
  • Participate in vendor/customer calls as the technical POC for the organization for a program of record
  • Support on-orbit optical communication system link testing and operations through the development of operational procedures
  • Fulfill the role of optical physics SME within engineering
  • May require some travel to support testing and launch

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • A bility to script using Python and work with version control systems (Git)
  • Must be self-accountable, have high attention for detail, and look forward to collaboration in a fast-paced team environment
  • Must have, or a willingness to obtain, a DoD Security Clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants meeting one or more of the below criteria are preferred
    • Experience with the environments experienced by a spacecraft and their implications to precision optical systems
    • Experience in the design, development, and/or testing of o ptical communications systems or their components
    • Prior experience with environmental test campaigns of electro-optical components or systems (such as vibration testing and thermal chamber testing)
    • Background in electronics
    • Active DoD Security Clearance
