Full-Time Optometric Assistant (1-Year Contract)

Location: Optical House, Kitchener, ON Start Date: Immediately

Contract Length: 1 year (maternity leave coverage)

Hours: Full-time (Tuesday to Saturday)

About Our Clinic & Optical

Optical House is a full-service optometry clinic and optical store committed to providing comprehensive eye care and quality eyewear in a welcoming, patient-focused environment. Our team works collaboratively to deliver excellent clinical care and personalized optical service. We are currently seeking a full-time Optometric Assistant / Optical Assistant for a 1-year contract to cover a maternity leave. Position

Overview

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in both the clinical and optical retail sides of an eye care practice. The successful candidate will support the optometrist by booking and checking in patients, assisting with frame selection, providing basic lens education, and handling optical dispensing.

Key Responsibilities

● Greeting patients and ensuring a positive patient experience

● Entering and updating patient information in electronic medical records

● Submitting to OHIP system

● Scheduling appointments and managing phone inquiries

Optical & Retail Duties

● Assisting patients with frame selection and lens options

● Providing general education on lenses, coatings, and eyewear care

● Adjusting and fitting frames (training provided if needed)

● Processing optical orders and coordinating with labs

● Maintaining displays, inventory, and optical organization

● Handling payments and point-of-sale transactions

Qualifications & Skills

● Experience in an optometry clinic or optical dispensary is an asset

● Strong customer service and communication skills

● Comfortable working with patients of all ages

● Detail-oriented with good organizational skills

● Ability to multitask in a busy clinic and retail environment
