Job description

Bus Driver / Utility Worker

This is a classified, twelve-month position under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor and/or the Supervisor of Maintenance, Operations, and Grounds. Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, the Bus Driver / Utility Worker operates a school bus in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations; maintains order and discipline among passengers; conducts daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintains accurate logs and reports; and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned vehicles. The position also performs custodial, grounds, and general maintenance duties, including cleaning, minor repairs, equipment setup, assisting with deliveries, supporting campus events, and maintaining safe and orderly facilities. Duties may include assisting students with boarding and exiting vehicles, operating wheelchair lifts, using two-way radios, and performing routine maintenance and grounds work as assigned. Training for the position will be provided to applicants. If you do not currently hold a bus driver license, you are still encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates may be hired as substitutes and placed into the District's bus driver training program. The District will reimburse the cost of training required to obtain a bus driver license, which is typically a four-to-six month process.

The Bus Driver / Utility Worker is responsible for operating a school bus on designated routes to transport students to and from school sites, school-related activities, and programs, while also providing support in custodial, grounds, and general maintenance functions as assigned. This position typically includes approximately five (5) hours per day of driving responsibilities and approximately three (3) hours per day of utility or maintenance duties. The position requires a strong commitment to student safety, professionalism, reliability, and teamwork.

***HIRING INCENTIVE INFORMATION*** Hiring Incentive – $10,000 The District is offering a $10,000 hiring incentive for qualified candidates who commit to a minimum of three (3) years of employment. The incentive will be paid as follows: $5,000 within forty-five (45) days of the employee's first day of paid service $5,000 within forty-five (45) days following the successful completion of one (1) full year of service Eligibility for the incentive is contingent upon: Successful completion of the District's commercial driver training program Passage of all required CHP school bus driver testing Appointment into the Bus Driver / Utility Worker position Continued employment in good standing Individuals participating in training or serving in a substitute or trainee capacity are not eligible for incentive payments until fully licensed and hired into the position. This position supports the District's Expanded Learning Opportunities Program and is generally scheduled M-F during the regular school year, with typical hours between 10am and 7pm, including a one-hour lunch period. Work hours and assignments are subject to change based on program needs, staffing levels, and operational requirements of the District. Successful candidates must pass pre-employment physical. Must pass DOT Drug and Alcohol Pre-Employment screening. Only applicants with all required attachments will be considered. Fingerprint clearance upon hire with DPOL JUSD.
