Job description

Description:

Job Purpose:

To sand leather on tools to form proper contours and meet the established rates of production.

Essential Functions:

  1. Operates, sets-up, and loads Zuckerman leather sanding machine. Places pattern cam in machine to bring handle to proper contour and appearance. Inspects finished handles on tools for quality and rejects defective handles.
  2. Perform necessary replacement and balancing of grinding wheels and belts and performs necessary adjustments of tension.
  3. Transports tools to and from appropriate staging areas.
  4. Completes the appropriate routing sheet and inputs data entry information in a timely manner.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  1. One month to three months of related experience or on-the-job training.

Physical:

  1. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, and use arms/hands to reach, finger, handle or feel, talk and hear for 8 hours or more per day.
  2. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and communicate effectively.
  3. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  4. Must have close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus to work.
  5. Employees will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, high noise levels, and vibration to hands.
  6. Employees will be required to wear hearing protection, safety glasses and foot protection.

Mental:

  1. Must have the ability to read and comprehend simple written and verbal instructions such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  2. Must be able to perform mathematical skills such as: addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division of all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  3. Must have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
