Job description

Our Grande Prairie Lumber Mill has an immediate opening for an Operational Team Leader. 
The successful individual will be responsible for the safe and efficient coordination/supervision of team members engaged in the daily operation of the Planermill reporting directly to the Dryside Superintendent. This position is for a weekday rotating shift - Monday through Thursday dayshift (2 weeks), and Monday through Thursday/Friday nightshift (2 weeks).
This will include supervision and development of team members, by working on the safety and reliability culture through influencing values using solid people principles. The Operational Team Lead will also be responsible for continuous improvement of efficiency through improved workflow and by being a liaison between operations and support groups. There is an expectation this role will attend team meetings as needed during off hours during the week.
Requirements:

  • Manage the daily activities of the department to meet unit goals, including scheduling and work/training assignments
  • Involve and engage associates, support ongoing safety initiatives, and maintain an injury-free work environment
  • Provide effective coaching, feedback, and discipline as required to improve the performance of the team
  • Conduct regular team meetings and training
  • Create a positive work environment, effectively interfaces with other departments, and ensure open communication among associates and other stakeholders
  • Pro-actively work to identify, and assist in resolving, safety, quality, and productivity issues
  • Partner with all other teams on site and corporately for the implementation/management of optimization throughout the site, including production scheduling, asset utilization and maintenance activities
  • Facilitate the planning of production activities, budgets, and capital project activities
  • Promotes continuous improvement/innovation and leads team to anticipate and adapt to change.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher is desired
  • Minimum of 2 years Wood Products experience
  • Previous Supervisory Experience
  • Strong computer, mathematical, and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and coach a team
  • Demonstrated self-starter with excellent time management skills and ability to perform with minimum supervision or direction
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within an organization
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and listening) skills

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting an hourly range of $43.00 - $63.00 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
