Job description
We started QuoteWell in 2021 as a wholesale insurance brokerage. To run it well, we had to build our own technology, so we did. What began as internal tooling turned into a real platform, tested and hardened by a live brokerage placing millions in premium. We were our own first customer, which meant nothing shipped unless it survived contact with the people who had to use it on Monday morning.
That platform is becoming a company of its own — a separate operating company, in the hands of retail agencies across the country.
There is a lot happening at once. We are scaling the brokerage, and running a large initiative to install the platform we built with customers outside our own walls. Both are growing. Both need people who can hold a lot of ambiguity, and both need someone actively handling the logistics of getting QuoteWell into rooms it isn't in yet.
This is a generalist seat built around growth. We are not hiring you to run a specific function.
We will hand you a problem that matters to the company, usually one nobody owns, and often one that isn't yet well defined. You will figure out what the actual question is, get the data, form a view, and then go make the outcome happen. Not a recommendation. The outcome.
The way we think about this role comes from the people who built the team. Our leadership comes out of top-tier management consulting and Palantir, and this seat in particular traces back to our CEO's time on the strategy and operations team there, and at startups after. That model puts a high-slope generalist against the highest-leverage problem in the building, then moves them when that problem changes.
The Day-to-DayWe give you dynamic projects, not just a static job description. Projects come from the CEO and the C-suite. They rotate, based on company need, or as problems arise.
You own the outcome. For project assignments, the deliverable will vary by project — if the answer requires you to learn to vibe code an analytics dashboard, sit in on twenty agent calls, rebuild a model, or personally run a process for six weeks until it is stable enough to hand off, that is the job.
You self-orient. Nobody is going to sequence your week. The role comes with ambiguity and a rough goal, and you're expected to come back with structure. The people who do well here find the question before anyone asks them to.
You report directly to the CEO. No layer in between, no translation.
You get direct access to C-suite problems. You will sit in the rooms where decisions get made, and you will frequently be the person who prepared the decision. Board materials, pricing architecture, capital planning, org design, and the questions that determine what the company is in two years.
Examples of projects you might ownRepresentative, not a list of assignments.
- Build the pricing model for the platform and figure out what happens to unit economics as usage scales.
- Build out onboarding processes and customer lifecycle maps across the brokerage and technology units.
- Own our tradeshow and event coordination — registration, marketing/swag coordination, booth logistics, etc.
- Build the market map for our next segment and advise whether it is worth entering.
- Marketing material execution — flyers, campaigns, etc. Essentially the material that makes agencies want to work with us.
- Run the cadence for improving day-to-day business operations. What metrics get measured weekly, what gets reviewed monthly, what the board sees quarterly.
- Be the first call when the office itself needs something figured out — vendors, workspace, some of the stuff that keeps the office running day-to-day.
You probably have 1-4 years of experience in one of these:
- A generalist, BizOps, Chief of Staff, or strategy and operations seat at a high-performing startup
- A role in top-tier management consulting or a comparable strategy group
- A role in investment banking, private equity, or growth equity
- A forward-deployed or deployment strategist role at a technical company
We care about a strong academic record and a track record of operating where standards are high. We care more about what you have actually shipped. Those two things usually correlate. When they conflict, we go with the second one.
What we are actually screening for- Structure under ambiguity. You can take a vague, badly posed problem and break it into pieces that can be worked.
- Quantitative fluency. You are comfortable in a model and in a dataset. SQL is a strong plus. If you cannot write it yet, you should be the kind of person who will have learned it by month two.
- Written clarity. You can make a complicated situation legible in a page.
- Bias toward finishing. Analysis that does not change what happens is a hobby.
- Low ego about the work. The most valuable thing in the building this week might be unglamorous. Do it anyway.
- Appetite for a complicated domain. You do not need to know insurance. You do need to find it genuinely interesting to learn, because it is an intricate business and the detail is where the leverage is.
- Relationship instinct. You can walk into a room of brokers or agents, or open a cold outreach thread, and make people want to work with us.
- Outcomes, not outputs. Effort and velocity are inputs, not scorecards. We judge ourselves on the value we deliver, working closely with customers to drive real transformation.
- Stay curious. Execution is cheap now. Judgment is not. Ask why before you ask how.
- Bias to action. Do not wait for permission. Find the gap, close it. High agency is the difference between our success and failure.
- Build together. Share work early, iterate live, ask for help, and expect your first answer to change. Our size is an advantage. Foster debate, move quickly, disagree and commit.
This is a young company in an old industry. The problems are not clean. Some of what you build will get thrown away. You will spend real time on unglamorous operational work. We are in the office together in Austin because at this stage that is how the work gets done.
In exchange, you get an unusual amount of ownership, a direct line to decisions, and a front row seat while a category gets rebuilt.
What we offer our full-time employees- Competitive salaries + equity in the company
- Medical, Dental, and Vision healthcare benefits + FSA and HSA options
- Flexible vacation policy to recharge and live life
- Paid membership to One Medical for employees, spouses / domestic partners, and dependents
- Company-sponsored 401K plan (Roth & Traditional)
- Paid parental leave, generous family forming benefits and up to $5,000 of reimbursements through Carrot
- Up to $1,000 in home office reimbursements to build a productive space to work remotely
- An opportunity to work on solutions that are redefining the future of commercial insurance
- A culture driven by a focus on impact, a shared growth mindset, empowered individuals, and integrity
