The Starting Gate at GreatHorse

Events at the Starting Gate are unforgettable. The Starting Gate offers an event space perfect for hosting everything from galas and grand receptions to intimate gatherings and corporate meetings with a view! Every guest will remember our innovative event planning, in-house catering, and consistent delivery of exceptional service.

Position Summary:

The Banquet Captain is responsible for supervising the banquet staff and overseeing the operations of an event. The Banquet Captain also acts as a liaison between the banquet and operation teams. Must be available nights and weekends.

Your Role:

  • Strong server able to aid the operations manager in serving guests during event functions to ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Set-up and breakdown of all function spaces
  • Hold pre-shift meetings to review BEO and selective service standards.
  • Communicate with support staff and management.
  • Lead banquet functions to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with all departmental and Starting Gate policies and procedures.
  • Organize all assigned functions and complete preparation work in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Complete the requisition for additional supplies needed and submit it to management.
  • Ensure that assigned employees have reported to work and report on any absent or tardy employees.
  • Assign stations and side work to Servers in accordance with department procedures.
  • Ensure all closing duties for staff are complete before staff clocks out.
  • Provide feedback on staff performance to Operations and report any employee issues to the supervisor.
  • Foster and promote a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale.
  • Review the status of assignments and any follow-up action with the Operations Manager and/or oncoming Supervisor.
  • Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests.
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
  • Uphold the integrity of the Starting Gate and its staff
  • Protect the property of the Starting Gate
  • Maintains reasonable, regular, punctual attendance consistent with Company policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Adapts to changing duties, as required, based on business needs.

Requirements:

  • Availability to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.
  • Must be 18 years old.
