Position Summary
The General Manager is responsible for the dealership's overall leadership, profitability, growth, and operational success. This role is accountable for achieving financial performance targets, meeting or exceeding OEM sales objectives, delivering best-in-class customer satisfaction, and building a high-performance culture.
The ideal candidate brings a hands-on leadership style, strong financial acumen, and expertise in both prime and subprime business models, along with a passion for developing people and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Direct and oversee all dealership operations to ensure maximum efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve sales, service, parts, and profitability goals
  • Implement scalable processes to support growth across all departments
  • Ensure strict adherence to Honda OEM standards and operational requirements
  • Champion a customer-first culture with a focus on CSI, online reputation, and retention
  • Manage and resolve escalated customer concerns swiftly and professionally
  • Build strong relationships with OEM partners, lenders (including subprime finance sources), and the local community

Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing leadership team
  • Create a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous development
  • Establish clear KPIs and conduct regular performance reviews
  • Lead structured management meetings focused on data-driven results
  • Develop future leaders within the organization
  • Maintain strong employee engagement and retention initiatives
  • Ensure proper staffing across all departments to support growth

Financial Performance & Strategy
  • Own full P&L responsibility and drive dealership profitability
  • Analyze financial statements, forecast performance, and execute strategic plans
  • Identify opportunities to improve gross, reduce expenses, and increase operational efficiency
  • Drive both prime and subprime financing strategies to maximize deal structure, approvals, and profitability
  • Partner with the Controller to ensure accurate reporting and compliance
  • Optimize inventory management, pricing strategy, and turn rates
  • Deliver timely financial reporting to ownership

Sales, Marketing & Customer Experience
  • Drive performance across Sales, F&I, Service, and Parts departments
  • Ensure strong special finance/subprime deal structure, lender relationships, and approval ratios
  • Execute modern Honda-focused marketing strategies, including:
  • Digital lead generation and conversion
  • Reputation management and Google review growth
  • Service retention and lifecycle marketing
  • Maintain a top-tier CSI culture across all departments
  • Monitor and improve customer satisfaction, retention, and online brand presence
  • Ensure consistent execution of sales processes and CRM discipline
  • Support community engagement and brand-building efforts

Compliance & Risk Management
  • Maintain full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Ensure adherence to Honda standards and audit requirements
  • Oversee safe, ethical, and compliant dealership operations
  • Minimize financial, operational, and legal risks

Qualifications
Required
  • Proven experience as a General Sales Manager or higher in an automotive dealership
  • Demonstrated success driving profitability and operational performance
  • Strong experience in subprime/special finance operations, lender management, and deal structuring
  • Advanced knowledge of dealership financial statements and KPIs
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong understanding of inventory management, pricing, and market dynamics
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in DMS and CRM systems
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred
  • Experience with Honda dealership operations and OEM programs
  • CDK DMS experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field
  • Prior full P&L General Manager responsibility
