POSITION SUMMARY

The Emergency Response Provider is a licensed behavioral health clinician serving on the Emergency Response and Mobile Crisis teams across the organization's North and South Regions. This position responds to behavioral health and substance use crises in community settings; conducts crisis, safety, and risk assessments; coordinates voluntary and involuntary interventions, including Colorado 27-65/M-1 holds; facilitates inpatient placement or connection to the Crisis Respite Facility when appropriate; and collaborates with law enforcement, hospitals, schools, and other community partners to promote individual and community safety. The role also completes assigned Hospital Discharge Follow-Ups to support individuals transitioning from inpatient care back to outpatient and community-based services.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responds to behavioral health and substance use crisis calls and provides assessment, intervention, stabilization, and disposition planning.
• Conducts mental status, suicide, violence, substance use, and overall safety/risk assessments to determine the least restrictive appropriate level of care.
• Completes and coordinates Colorado 27-65/M-1 emergency holds and required documentation when clinically and legally indicated.
• Coordinates voluntary and involuntary inpatient psychiatric placement, including required authorizations, transportation, and communication with receiving facilities.
• Assesses individuals for connection to the organization's Crisis Respite Facility as an alternative or step-down level of care and facilitates warm handoffs when appropriate.
• Conducts assigned Hospital Discharge Follow-Ups to assess safety, address barriers, and reconnect individuals to outpatient treatment and community supports.
• Collaborates with law enforcement, EMS, hospitals, schools, agency programs, families, and other community partners to coordinate crisis response and promote community safety.
• Provides mobile crisis response in homes, hospitals, schools, law enforcement settings, agency locations, and other community settings.
• Provides crisis consultation and emergency evaluation support to agency clinical teams as needed.
• Completes timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, dispositions, 27-65 activities, and follow-up services in the electronic health record.
• Participates in team coverage, supervision, meetings, required training, and other duties necessary to support Emergency Response and Mobile Crisis operations.

SHIFT & REPONSE EXPECTATIONS

Emergency Response Providers work 24-hour shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day, with the provider generally serving in a hybrid/remote role within the assigned region. Approximately 50% of shifts are assigned, with staff having the opportunity to select the remaining 50% of their required shifts. Providers must remain available throughout scheduled coverage and be able to respond to local dispatches within one (1) hour and rural dispatches within two (2) hours. In person response is required as the first line of defense, with telehealth response being permissible for qualifying events. Travel throughout the assigned North or South Region is required.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, psychology, social work or other related clinical discipline

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

1. Registered in the State of Colorado as an LPCC, SW-C, or LSW (candidacy position) OR
2. Current Colorado clinical license as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT (licensed position only)

• Current training and certification as a Colorado Crisis Professional, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
• Must meet applicable requirements to perform crisis assessments and complete 27-65/M-1 documentation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the assigned service area.

EXPERIENCE

Experience providing crisis intervention, behavioral health assessment, and management of acute behavioral health needs in community, outpatient, residential, emergency, or inpatient settings preferred. Experience coordinating psychiatric hospitalization involuntary interventions, and community-based stabilization services is strongly preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

• Strong crisis assessment, de-escalation, safety planning, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of Colorado 27-65 requirements, crisis systems, and levels of behavioral health care.
• Ability to independently assess risk and make timely clinical decisions in high-acuity situations.
• Knowledge of DSM diagnostic concepts and community behavioral health resources.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with law enforcement, hospitals, families, and other community partners.
• Strong written, verbal, documentation, time-management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a regional crisis response team.
• Ability to maintain professional judgment and composure in high-stress and unpredictable situations.
• Ability to travel and meet required one-hour local and two-hour rural response timeframes.

PAY RANGE

$62,000 - 68,500/yr (candidate position) or $76,000 - $85,500/yr (licensed position)
