The Avery Point Group has been retained to conduct a confidential search for a Director of Operations for a leading, high-growth contract manufacturer of electromechanical assemblies. The company is a recognized leader in its high-mix product industry and is seeking a hands-on operations leader who can strengthen daily execution, improve operational performance, and support continued business growth.

This is a highly visible manufacturing leadership role responsible for leading and overseeing key operational functions across production, materials, shipping, inventory control, and related manufacturing support areas. The Director of Operations will be accountable for improving efficiency, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, material flow, labor utilization, and continuous improvement across a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on leadership experience in a contract manufacturing, electronics, electromechanical assembly, or similar high-mix manufacturing environment. This person must be comfortable working closely with frontline leaders, production teams, materials personnel, quality, engineering, finance, and executive leadership to ensure customer expectations, production goals, and quality standards are consistently achieved.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations will provide both strategic and day-to-day leadership for manufacturing operations. This leader will be expected to drive operational execution, develop stronger management routines, improve throughput, support business growth, and build the leadership discipline needed in a high-mix, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.

This role oversees operational leadership across production management, materials management, shipping, inventory control, and related manufacturing support personnel. The successful candidate will bring a practical, floor-oriented leadership style, strong analytical capability, and the ability to create accountability across multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations across production, materials, inventory control, shipping, and related manufacturing support departments.
  • Drive operational efficiency, throughput, labor productivity, and overall manufacturing performance while maintaining strong quality standards.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that support customer satisfaction, quality objectives, and continued business growth.
  • Monitor and improve key operating metrics, including on-time delivery, production output, labor efficiency, inventory accuracy, scrap, rework, and downtime.
  • Manage production scheduling, staffing, workflow optimization, and resource planning.
  • Ensure material availability and effective supply chain coordination to support customer demand and manufacturing requirements.
  • Strengthen stockroom, production, and shipping execution to ensure accurate and timely product shipments.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
  • Partner closely with Quality to ensure compliance with ISO standards, customer specifications, and internal quality systems.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop department managers, supervisors, and operational staff.
  • Support capital equipment planning, facility improvements, and initiatives that improve scalability and operational performance.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing operations leader who has successfully managed multiple departments in a fast-paced, high-mix production environment. This person should bring strong leadership presence, practical problem-solving ability, and the ability to improve performance through disciplined execution, cross-functional coordination, and continuous improvement.

The company is looking for a leader who can be close to the operation, engage effectively with frontline teams, use data to drive decisions, and create greater consistency across production, materials, inventory, shipping, quality, and customer delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an operations leader who wants to make a direct impact in a growing business where operational discipline, customer responsiveness, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement are central to long-term success.

Required Experience

  • 7–10+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Proven experience managing multiple departments in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in contract manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, electromechanical assembly, or a similar high-mix production environment.
  • Experience leading production, materials, inventory control, shipping, and manufacturing support functions.
  • Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve on-time delivery, labor efficiency, inventory accuracy, production output, scrap, rework, and downtime performance.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
