Job description

Role Summary

Grant Thornton is seeking an Advisory Strategy & Operations Director to join the team in Edison, NJ.

The Advisory Strategy & Operations Director serves as the operational and strategic integrator for the Transactions Solution Family to translate strategy into action and measurable outcomes, balancing long‑term strategic initiatives with near‑term operational execution. This role serves as the operational quarterback for the Solution Family Leader (Practice Leader) and execution partner to the Strategy & Transformation Leader. The Transactions Solutions family includes the following Grant Thornton Solutions (capabilities): Commercial Due Diligence, Financial Due Diligence, Value Creation (including ITDD and ODD), Valuations, and Accounting Advisory.

This role is a key member of the Solution Family Leadership Team, driving operational excellence, growth enablement, and performance management across the practice’s full lifecycle—from strategy and planning through delivery, financial performance, and continuous improvement.

This role combines strategic thinking, analytical rigor, and execution discipline, combined with subject matter expertise and proven experience delivering services in one or more of the solutions, to ensure the practice operates as a high‑performing business while enabling Partners to focus on clients and growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the day‑to‑day operational leader for the practice (all solutions that comprise a solution family), ensuring execution against strategic Advisory and Solution Family priorities.
  • Develop, manage, and mature processes and sales motions to achieve P&L performance, including revenue growth, margin improvement, and cost management.
  • Free up Solution Family Leader Partner capacity by absorbing executional and operational leadership responsibilities.
  • Drive practice financial rhythms: forecasting, pipeline reviews, utilization and P&C/performance reporting and processes, offshore strategy/execution, training.
  • Provide data‑driven insights and scenario modeling to support investment and growth decisions.
  • Coordinate across marketing, sales, and delivery functions to drive consistent execution of our Go to Market efforts (i.e. EPICs) and branding efforts.
  • Support communication and efficiency within the business with preparation/analysis required for weekly leadership meetings, business reviews, all hands & PMD calls, etc.
  • Enable the growth strategy through pipeline management, sales operations, and offering execution.
  • Identify and remove operational bottlenecks impacting growth, delivery, or profitability.
  • Work with Solution Leaders to drive the development and scaling of priority standard offerings.
  • Translate strategic priorities into roadmaps, initiatives, KPIs, and execution plans.
  • Act as escalation point for operational risks and execution challenges.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Partners on operational and strategic matters.
  • Align stakeholders across internal functions and delivery processes, with a commercial focus.
  • Lead the execution of Advisory transformation initiatives across the operating model for the Solution Family, collaborating on priorities and plans with the Transformation Office.
  • Establish scalable processes across resourcing, delivery oversight, and practice management working with the firmwide functional teams.
  • Drive Advisory‑wide standardization and operational excellence efforts through the Solutions for P&L impact and market relevance.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in strategy consulting, operations, or professional services with a specific focus delivering Transactions‑related consulting work in the market (Commercial Due Diligence, Financial Due Diligence, Value Creation, including ITDD and ODD, Valuation, and Accounting Advisory).
  • Proven experience translating strategy into execution at scale.
  • Strong understanding of P&L mechanics in professional services.
  • Experience operating in matrixed, partner‑led environments.
  • Advanced analytical, financial, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient and proven executive‑level communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Proven relationship‑building skills, with the ability to influence, align, and inspire at all levels.
  • Mission‑driven, with a deep interest in the potential and implications of Grant Thornton’s mission and what it means to our people, our clients, and the market.
  • A life‑long learner, intrinsically motivated to innovate, apply AI to everything from mundane deliverable production to practice building and client value, and lead by example in uncharted waters.

Base salary range for this position is between $170,000 and $190,000. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion, and it is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job‑related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity. At Grant Thornton, compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
