Job description

Title:
AWS DevOps Engineer
BELONG. CONNECT. GROW. with KBR.
Around here, we define the future. We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers. But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.
KBR is seeking an AWS DevOps Engineer to design, automate, secure, and operate Amazon Web Services environments supporting mission-critical customer workloads.
This hands-on role works across cloud engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, application development, and infrastructure teams to modernize systems and deliver reliable cloud services. The engineer will independently complete assigned work, contribute to technical designs and operational decisions, own defined technical components, and provide guidance to less-experienced engineers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, secure, maintain, and operate AWS cloud environments.
  • Assess applications and infrastructure and recommend appropriate migration and modernization approaches, including rehosting, replatforming, containerization, and adoption of cloud-native services.
  • Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code modules and deployment patterns using Terraform, AWS Cloud Development Kit, AWS CloudFormation, or comparable tools.
  • Develop infrastructure and operational automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
  • Design, maintain, and troubleshoot continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using GitLab, GitLab Runners, GitHub Actions, or comparable platforms.
  • Automate build, testing, security scanning, artifact management, deployment, validation, environment promotion, and rollback processes.
  • Design and support containerized workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, Amazon Elastic Container Service, Helm, and GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
  • Implement cloud security controls for identity and access management, encryption, secrets management, network protection, vulnerability management, logging, auditing, and least-privilege access.
  • Support environments operating under Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, Federal Information Security Modernization Act, National Institute of Standards and Technology, and customer security requirements.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel and system owners on control implementation, compliance evidence, remediation, and continuous monitoring.
  • Develop monitoring, alerting, dashboards, service health checks, operational runbooks, and incident-response procedures.
  • Troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure, Linux, networking, pipeline, container, and application deployment issues.
  • Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, backup and recovery, resilience, and disaster-recovery activities.
  • Apply FinOps practices to improve resource tagging, cost allocation, rightsizing, scheduling, storage use, anomaly detection, and overall cloud efficiency.
  • Create and maintain technical designs, architecture diagrams, configuration records, implementation plans, engineering standards, and operating procedures.
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, technical planning, Agile activities, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to Associate and less-experienced engineers.
  • Use approved Generative AI tools to support infrastructure development, pipeline engineering, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and automation while following security and responsible-use requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least six years of relevant professional experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, systems administration, software development, infrastructure automation, cybersecurity engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, securing, and operating AWS environments supporting production, regulated, security-sensitive, or mission-critical workloads.
  • Experience migrating, modernizing, or supporting applications and infrastructure in AWS.
  • Experience with:
  • Terraform, AWS Cloud Development Kit, AWS CloudFormation, or comparable Infrastructure as Code technology.
  • Python, Bash, PowerShell, Java, Go, JavaScript, or another scripting or programming language.
  • Linux administration and troubleshooting.
  • Git and source-code management workflows.
  • GitLab, GitLab Runners, GitHub Actions, or comparable continuous integration and continuous delivery platforms.
  • Automated testing, security scanning, artifact management, deployment automation, environment promotion, or rollback.
  • Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, Amazon Elastic Container Service, Helm, or comparable container technologies.
  • Working knowledge of AWS networking, identity and access management, encryption, secrets management, logging, monitoring, and cloud security.
  • Familiarity with Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, Federal Information Security Modernization Act, National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication 800-53, or a comparable security framework.
  • Experience with monitoring, incident response, operational runbooks, backup and recovery, or disaster-recovery practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud cost management, resource tagging, rightsizing, or FinOps principles.
  • Ability to independently resolve complex technical issues, document findings, recommend corrective actions, and escalate material risks.
  • Ability to review technical work and guide less-experienced engineers.
  • Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to customer and contract requirements. Employment is contingent upon verification of citizenship and satisfaction of applicable customer, facility-access, background-investigation, and contract eligibility requirements.
