Job description

Accounting Manager

Stockton, CA | $80,000–$100,000 Base + Quarterly Bonus (Target up to $30,000 Annually)

Lead the Team That Keeps a $1 Billion Business Moving.

We're partnering with a long-established, privately owned California company seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of its Accounting department.

This is a leadership-first opportunity. You'll manage a team of approximately 15 direct reports across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Billing while helping improve processes, strengthen accountability, and support a collaborative workplace culture.

If you're an experienced accounting leader who enjoys developing people just as much as managing financial operations, we'd love to connect.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and develop a team of approximately 15 accounting professionals
  • Manage the AP, AR, and Billing departments
  • Coordinate the monthly close process and ensure deadlines are consistently met
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees through regular feedback and performance evaluations
  • Improve accounting workflows, documentation, and internal controls
  • Partner with leadership to increase efficiency across the department
  • Assist with reconciliations, reporting, and accounting operations
  • Help prepare the organization for future ERP upgrades and process improvements
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and accountable culture

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Previous experience managing accounting teams
  • Strong understanding of month-end close and accrual accounting
  • Experience supervising multiple direct reports
  • ERP experience required
  • Process improvement mindset
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • CPA is a plus, but not required

Ideal Background

We're looking for someone who combines:

  • Strong people leadership
  • Solid accounting fundamentals
  • Experience managing operational accounting teams
  • A calm, collaborative leadership style
  • The ability to improve processes while maintaining a positive culture

Industry experience within distribution, manufacturing, logistics, wholesale, or petroleum is a plus—but not required.

Compensation

  • $80,000–$100,000 base salary
  • Quarterly performance bonusTarget bonus opportunity up to $30,000 annually
  • 401(k) with immediate vesting and company match
  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Company-paid Life Insurance
  • HSA options
  • Wellness programs
  • Flexible salaried PTO philosophy
  • Stable, privately owned company with nearly 80 years of success

Why This Role?

This isn't a role where you'll simply oversee month-end close.

You'll help shape the future of the accounting organization by leading a large team, improving processes, mentoring employees, and partnering with leadership as the company prepares for major ERP enhancements.

If you enjoy building teams, creating structure, and making an operational impact, this is an opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership role with long-term growth potential.
