Job description

The Accounting & Compliance Specialist role is one that combines accounting, tax, compliance, and business risk management. The Accounting & Compliance Specialist helps protect and support the organization by managing key tax and regulatory requirements, supporting audit activities, maintaining insurance and risk management processes, and contributing to core accounting functions. This position offers broad exposure across the business and provides opportunities to develop expertise in compliance, tax, financial reporting, and operational finance. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Coordinate and prepare sales and use tax filings, property tax returns, and related tax schedules.
  • Support tax planning and compliance activities with internal and external partners.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assist with implementing compliance requirements.

Risk Management & Insurance

  • Support Vollrath's insurance and risk management programs.
  • Coordinate annual insurance renewal data and maintain ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Assist with government filings, surveys, and compliance activities.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Support monthly and annual financial close activities.
  • Generate financial reports and analysis used across the business.

Audit Support

  • Coordinate schedules and supporting documentation for external audits and benefit plan audits. Partner with auditors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of audit requests. Support corporate leased vehicle program.
  • Together with the supervisor, add value to the organization by maintaining a working knowledge of federal and state tax law changes, optimizing Vollrath’s tax position, and ensuring timely enterprise-level compliance.

Department Support

  • Work collaboratively with the finance organization as well as internal and external constituencies. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-2+ years’ experience in a general accounting environment. Manufacturing industry experience a plus but not required. Experience processing sales and use tax returns is a plus.
  • Associate’s degree in accounting or finance or progress towards a degree, or equivalent combination of education and / or experience.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to Vollrath values and culture.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work across departments. 
  • Ability to solve problems, prioritize, and work independently.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external constituencies.
  • Intermediate Excel proficiency. 
  • JDE ERP system experience a plus.
