Job description

The Accounting Manager/Finance Manager serves as the strategic leader of the accounting and finance function and is the primary financial liaison to the client. This role evolves in two distinct phases. Initially, the focus is on ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of financial reporting while building strong client relationships and leading the accounting team. As the position matures, the role expands into a broader Finance Manager position with responsibility for treasury management, cash forecasting, liquidity planning, and strategic financial partnership.

  • Throughout both phases, the role maintains ultimate accountability for the quality of the financial information delivered to clients while developing a high-performing finance organization.

Phase I:

Primary Objective:

Establish operational excellence within the accounting function by ensuring accurate financial reporting, leading the accounting team, and serving as the primary client contact for financial reporting and month-end close activities.

Duties:

Client Management & Financial Reporting

  • Own the final delivery of the Financial Flash and monthly Financial Statement package to the client (through the Finance Supervisor, where applicable).
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for client questions related to month-end close, financial results, and accounting matters.
  • Review and finalize financial commentary and management narratives, ensuring the financial story is accurate, meaningful, and actionable.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients by delivering timely, accurate, and insightful financial information.

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and develop Senior Accountants and Finance Supervisors (where applicable), ensuring their teams consistently meet quality standards and reporting deadlines.
  • Drive accountability across the month-end close process and financial reporting cycle.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure consistent application of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, efficiency, and team performance.
  • Develop Staff Accountants and the broader accounting team as the team evolves, ensuring they are properly trained and that training supports two-way learning, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Timely and accurate delivery of Financial Flash and monthly financial statements.
  • Client satisfaction with financial reporting quality and responsiveness.
  • Month-end close accuracy and adherence to reporting deadlines.
  • Team performance and operational effectiveness.
  • Optimization of team staffing and maintenance of the most efficient and cost-effective team structure.

Phase II:

Primary Objective:

Expand the role from accounting leadership into strategic financial management by assuming ownership of treasury operations, cash forecasting, liquidity management, and broader financial planning while continuing to oversee accounting operations.

Duties:

Strategic Client Partnership

  • Continue to own all financial reporting deliverables and executive-level financial communication.
  • Serve as the client's primary strategic financial advisor, providing insights into financial performance, cash flow, and business trends.
  • Translate detailed financial data into actionable recommendations that support client decision-making.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Develop and maintain rolling weekly cash forecasts, analyzing the impact of accounts payable, payroll, and other cash requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver the Cash Flash report, providing clients with timely visibility into liquidity and cash position.
  • Oversee payment execution by confirming AP funding requirements with the client and authorizing the final release of approved payments.
  • Monitor liquidity to ensure sufficient funding for all approved transactions and proactively identify potential cash constraints.

Financial Oversight

  • Maintain ultimate accountability for the accuracy of AP runs, significant journal entries, and corrective GL activity reviewed by supervisors.
  • Partner with operational leadership to improve forecasting accuracy, cash utilization, and financial performance.
  • Recommend process improvements that strengthen financial controls, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and mentor the AP Supervisor, Finance Supervisor (where applicable), and Senior Accountants.
  • Build organizational capability by developing future finance leaders and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accounting, accounts payable, and finance teams operate as an integrated, high-performing function.
  • Develop Staff Accountants and the broader finance team as the team evolves, ensuring they are properly trained and that training supports two-way learning, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Accuracy of weekly cash forecasts versus actual cash requirements.
  • Timely and accurate delivery of Financial Flash, Cash Flash, and monthly financial statements.
  • Zero funding deficiencies for approved client transactions.
  • Client satisfaction with financial reporting, treasury support, and strategic financial guidance.
  • Continuous improvement in financial processes, controls, and team performance.
  • Optimization of team staffing and maintenance of the most efficient and cost-effective team structure.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, client relationship management, and accounting operations.
  • Experience with cash flow forecasting, treasury management, and liquidity planning is preferred and becomes essential as the role progresses into the Finance Manager phase.
