Commercial Insurance Casualty Risk Manager

Product Manufacturing Industry Experience Required

Position Summary

The Commercial Insurance & Casualty Risk Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization's commercial insurance and casualty risk programs across manufacturing operations. This role minimizes financial loss, ensures adequate insurance protection, manages claims, oversees broker and carrier relationships, and supports enterprise risk management initiatives. The position works closely with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Operations, Legal, Human Resources, and Finance teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risks affecting employees, facilities, products, and business operations.

Risk Manager Must Have Complex General Liability Experience

Key Responsibilities

Insurance Program Management

Design, negotiate, and administer commercial insurance programs, including:

General Liability

Product Liability

Umbrella/Excess Liability

Environmental Liability

Directors & Officers (D&O)

Coordinate annual insurance renewals and underwriting submissions.

Analyze insurance coverage and identify gaps or opportunities for cost reductions.

Manage insurance certificates and compliance requirements for customers, vendors, and contractors.

Develop insurance strategies aligned with organizational risk tolerance and business objectives.

Casualty Claims Management

Oversee all casualty claims including general liability, and product liability claims.

Partner with third-party administrators (TPAs), insurance carriers, defense counsel, and brokers to achieve favorable claim outcomes.

Review claim reserves, settlement strategies, and litigation exposure.

Monitor claim trends and identify corrective actions to reduce future losses.

Ensure timely claim reporting and regulatory compliance.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation

Conduct risk assessments of manufacturing plants, warehouses, distribution centers, and corporate facilities.

Collaborate with EHS and Operations leadership to identify loss prevention opportunities.

Support implementation of safety initiatives designed to reduce injury frequency and severity.

Analyze operational risks associated with equipment, product quality, transportation, contractors, and supply chain activities.

Develop risk mitigation recommendations based on data analytics and loss experience.

Loss Prevention & Safety Partnership

Partner with EHS leadership to improve workplace safety performance.

Track key risk indicators including:

Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)

Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR)

OSHA metrics

Workers' Compensation costs

Liability claims frequency

Recommend engineering and administrative controls to reduce loss exposure.

Participate in facility audits and corrective action planning.

Financial & Analytical Responsibilities

Develop annual insurance budgets and forecast insurance-related expenses.

Analyze total cost of risk (TCOR) metrics and loss trends.

Monitor premium allocations, deductibles, self-insured retentions, and collateral requirements.

Prepare reports for executive leadership regarding risk exposures and insurance program performance.

Support actuarial studies and reserve evaluations.

Vendor & Broker Management

Manage relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, TPAs, loss-control consultants, and legal counsel.

Evaluate service provider performance and negotiate service agreements.

Lead insurance marketing and renewal strategies to achieve optimal coverage and pricing.

Regulatory & Compliance

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local insurance regulations.

Maintain documentation supporting insurance placements, claims, and risk management practices.

Support audits, regulatory inquiries, and litigation matters.

Monitor emerging risks and changing regulatory requirements affecting manufacturing operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $78.00 - $86.21/hr.
