Job description

OrthoMed Anesthesia is seeking a dedicated Risk Manager to join our anesthesia practice management group in Addison, TX. This is a critical onsite position requiring specialized expertise in malpractice insurance for healthcare clinicians, with a focus on anesthesia-related risks.

The Risk Manager will serve as the primary liaison between our practice and insurance carriers, working closely with anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and support staff to maintain comprehensive risk management protocols. This role requires someone who understands the unique liability exposures inherent in anesthesia practice, including perioperative risks, medication management, and patient monitoring challenges. In addition to healthcare professional liability, this role will oversee the organization’s broader commercial insurance and enterprise risk management program. The Risk Manager will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating non-clinical risks across the organization, including cyber risk, management liability, workers’ compensation, general liability, automobile liability, and property exposures.

This position plays a critical cross-functional role, partnering with leadership, IT, HR, operations, and external advisors to ensure comprehensive risk transfer strategies, claims oversight, and compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Malpractice Insurance Management: Oversee malpractice insurance policies for anesthesiologists and clinical staff, ensuring adequate coverage and cost-effective renewals
  • Claims Management: Coordinate with insurance carriers and legal counsel on malpractice claims, incident investigations, and settlement negotiations
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments of clinical practices, procedures, and protocols to identify potential liability exposures
  • Policy Renewal Management: Own the commercial insurance renewal process across all lines of coverage, including the coordination, compilation, and timely submission of underwriting data and exposure information in advance of policy renewal dates.
  • Policy Development: Develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures, and protocols specific to anesthesia practice
  • Certificate of Insurance Management: Manage the issuance, review, and maintenance of annual and adhoc certificates of insurance across all lines of coverage, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Insurance Partner Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party partners, facilitating daytoday communication, renewals, claims coordination, and coverage-related inquiries
  • Staff Training: Provide risk management education and training to physicians, nurses, and support staff
  • Incident Reporting: Manage incident reporting systems and ensure timely documentation of adverse events
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Data Analysis: Analyze claims data, incident trends, and risk metrics to develop prevention strategies

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Risk Management, or related field
  • Minimum 5 – 7 years’ experience in malpractice insurance for healthcare clinicians
  • Knowledge of anesthesia practice operations and associated risks
  • Experience with insurance carriers, claims management, and legal proceedings
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Professional certification (ARM, CPHRM, or similar) preferred
