Job Summary

This position will have overall for Operational Excellence will lead the organization's capability in knowledge and understanding of metrics and measurements which impact the total performance of the organization. This position is responsible for leading the team for investigation, planning, and implementation of the more complex improvements in and/or additions to current products and manufacturing processes that directly affects safety, quality and productivity with the end result of producing a better-quality product more efficiently. You will collaborate with all functions and departments, at all levels, as well as other sites.

The position aligns the business need with OpEx strategy and use entire spectrum of lean and continuous improvement principles and methodologies to provide operational excellence input in the establishment of significant strategic value to the organization. Working with Leadership and cross-functional teams, the position has responsibility for the management and execution of the organization's operational excellence program, developing and maintaining the resources necessary for executing the operational excellence strategy, the operational excellence training curriculum, and for providing input to managers for their associates' operational excellence development planning.

This position will form and implement lean manufacturing strategies and lead the continuous improvement activities of support groups such as Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, Quality, Planning, Warehouse, and Facility. The position will drive Operational Excellence-related activities or projects to engineers and shop floor associates, and ensure implementation and reviewing outcomes.  Ensures compliance to Terumo's quality policy, rapid response to shop floor process flow issues, and assist/lead continuous improvement event activities.

The position has the responsibility for all aspects of the products manufactured/designed and equipment used at Terumo in terms of performance, safety, reliability, and quality.  The work performed affects the work of section operators, quality assurance, the impression of our product on customers, and the overall cost savings/profits to the Company.

Job Details/Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Implement Operational Excellence strategies. Integrate strategic milestones into year over year strategies and ensure successful implementation.
  2. Collaborate with senior management team to align operational excellence goals with business goals. Convert the business need into tangible projects and lead execution through collaboration with other support functions and value streams leaders.
  3. Drive the decision-making on operational performance, improvement initiatives, margin expansions and strategic recommendations to senior leadership through detailed reports.
  4. Drive cross functional team to execute quality improvement, capacity expansion and margin expansion projects.
  5. Ensure that the OpEx methodology is utilized to drive sustainable manufacturing and business process improvements that optimize capacity, reduce lead-time, minimize inventories, maximize fill-rates, process flow, and productivity.
  6. Develop and implement the strategy for creating infrastructure to make manufacturing data available for quick business decision, develop a strategy for the future factory.
  7. Manage a team of operational excellence professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
  8. Drive implementation of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to drive efficiency and quality improvements.
  9. Foster a culture of trust, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across the organization.
  10. Ensure all operational activities are compliant with cGMP, GDP, FDA regulations, and other relevant standards.
  11. Follow all established Environmental Health & Safety and Quality System policies, programs, rules and practices, including but not limited to product and patient safety, the health and safety of all associates as well as the environment and community at large.
  12. Performs other job related duties assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment for designing, specifying and implementing manufacturing equipment layout for maximum efficiency in process flow; improve and validate manufacturing processes, and /or solve complex engineering problems.
  • Extensive knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale operational excellence initiatives and achieving significant improvements.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in multiple disciplines such as manufacturing, sustaining, manufacturing engineering and R&D
  • Knowledge of GMP/FDA regulations.
  • Requires strong communications skills to engage senior management and provide regular business related updates
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a team environment, adaptable to change, able to manage competing priorities, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and sense of business savvy. 
  • Requires the ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced production environment. Solicits the cooperation of a diverse group of disciplines and functions in a tactful and persuasive manner.
Qualifications/ Background Experiences
  • BS in Industrial or Process Engineering or related field.  Advanced degree (MS) is preferred.
  • 15 years of increasing responsibility and experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering and/or Sustaining Engineering in medical device industry.
  • Requires 7 years of management experience.
