Operating Room Technologist

Typical Responsibilities of an Operating Room Technologist Include:

• Preparing operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring that instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are available, organized, and functioning correctly.
• Providing skilled scrub support to surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical team members during various procedures.
• Anticipating the needs of the surgical team and responding promptly to maintain a smooth, safe, and effective operative environment.
• Maintaining sterile techniques and adhering to infection prevention, aseptic practices, and organizational policies throughout all procedures.
• Handling, organizing, and passing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment with precision and attention to detail.
• Assisting with direct patient care activities before, during, and after surgery while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity.
• Supporting the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of surgical instruments and operating room equipment between procedures.
• Collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other perioperative team members to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and ongoing professional development to promote clinical excellence and continuous learning.
• Practicing within the legal and professional scope of the Operating Room Technician role while ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.

To qualify for this Operating Room Technologist position, you should be passionate about delivering safe, high-quality surgical care through technical expertise and teamwork. A high school diploma and completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician training program are required. Current certification from the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association are also necessary.
