Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Operating Room Relief Nurse in our Center for Care and Discovery (CCD) Operating Room. At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world's most innovative approaches to patients with conditions ranging from common to highly complex. You will work alongside nationally recognized physicians and multidisciplinary teams dedicated to advancing medicine through groundbreaking research and exceptional patient care.
This position is a 100% onsite opportunity located in Hyde Park, Chicago.
As an Operating Room Relief Nurse, you will provide goal-directed, patient-centered nursing care throughout the perioperative experience. Working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the healthcare team, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Essential Job Functions
• Utilizes assessment skills to determine patient needs and provide comprehensive patient and family-centered care.
• Implements and evaluates individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs and surgical procedures.
• Provides circulating nursing care for a variety of surgical specialties.
• Assists with patient positioning and supports patient care throughout the operative procedure.
• Prepares and administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies.
• Documents all aspects of patient care accurately within the electronic medical record.
• Maintains compliance with AORN standards, hospital policies, and nursing practice standards.
• Collaborates effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Participates in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and unit-based competencies.
• Serves as a preceptor and assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN); BSN preferred.
• Associate Degree nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire and complete the degree within 30 months. UChicago Medicine provides 100% tuition reimbursement toward an accredited BSN program.
• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Previous Operating Room/perioperative nursing experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
• CNOR certification.
• Experience in an academic medical center or Level I Trauma Center.
• Experience in multiple surgical specialties.

Shift: Days 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM
