Job description

PeaceHealth is seeking a Assistant Nurse Manager - Operating Room for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Variable position.
The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $64.55 - $96.83. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Surgical Services provides surgical care that promotes optimal healing and improved outcomes for patients undergoing surgery.
  • Surgical Services has eight operating suites
  • We are staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week
  • We typically perform 30-40 surgeries each weekday in all specialties, including open heart and total joint replacement
  • Our dynamic team of registered nurses, specialty technologists, certified nursing assistants and support staff work in close collaboration with surgeons and anesthesiologists

Job Summary
The position is responsible for providing managerial assistance to the Nurse Manager. This position is directly accountable to the Nurse Manager and is responsible for support in the following areas: hiring; staffing and scheduling; orientation; performance assessment; budget monitoring; maintaining and establishing patient care standards; policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates compassion, respect and caring while working within the scope of Registered Nurse Practice to provide individualized, safe and efficient care to patients and assistance to their families and visitors. Proactively implement measures to promote a safety climate on the unit, considering the inter-relationship of people, tools, and environment in which are is provided.
  • Provide leadership, management, and communication skills to department.
  • Assist Nurse Manager in planning, recommendation, and implementation of clinical service delivery. Recommend policy changes which enhance nursing ability to achieve top quartile performance.
  • Assist Nurse Manager with the staff supervision, counseling and documentation of personnel actions.
  • Assist Nurse Manager with the evaluation of work performance and performance assessments.
  • Promote, establish and maintain open communication.
  • Assist Nurse Manager with budget monitoring.
  • Assist with the supervision and direction of the department Clinical Educator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
  • Required: Degree from an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Experience
  • Required: Minimum of 3 years applicable nursing experience in an OR
  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years supervisory/leadership experience in healthcare organization
  • Preferred: Financial and budgetary experience

Credentials
  • Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support
  • Required: Registered Nurse in state of practice

Skills
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and time management skills (Preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal (Preferred)
  • Proficient in the use of computers including MS Office applications (Required)

Working Conditions
Lifting
  • Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
