Job description

Position Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the department’s management and RN, the Operating Room Aide assists the nurse in providing quality patient care to patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the initial room wipe down in the morning (i.e. overhead lights, horizontal surfaces).
  • Check and change sharps containers when full.
  • Bring additional supplies and equipment to room as requested by RN and Scrub Technician. 
  • Transport patient(s) to and from room as requested.
  • Assist with prep if needed. 
  • Clean and restock sub sterile area. 
  • Put away extra and unnecessary supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with cleaning and turning over the OR room. 
  • Process Ultrasound probes.
  • Put away laundry and scrubs.
  • Pull instruments and supplies for add on cases.
  • Responsible for doing outdates of supplies.
  • Assist with putting away sterile instruments.
  • Cross-trained for job duties of anesthesia tech.
  • Assist with positioning and prepping of patient as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the surgical team.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Successful completion of a nurse assistant training program, and knowledge of general nursing assistant functions.
  • Current nursing assistant certification in the State of Kansas.
  • BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.
  • Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.

Preferred:

  • Courses in medical terminology 6 months medical center experience
  • Non-violent Crisis intervention (CPI) class 

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.
