What is an operating partner job?

An operating partner is a senior executive who works with portfolio companies or business units to improve operational performance, often providing strategic guidance, management expertise, and oversight. They typically have experience in leadership, finance, or industry-specific areas and may be involved in implementing growth initiatives, cost reductions, or operational efficiencies.

What professions make $500,000 a year?

Operating Partners in private equity or venture capital firms can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and carried interest. High-level executives such as CEOs, surgeons, and specialized professionals in finance or law may also reach this income level, typically requiring extensive experience, advanced skills, and often working in high-stakes environments.

What does an operations partner do?

An operations partner is a senior professional who collaborates with company leadership to improve operational efficiency, optimize processes, and drive growth. They often analyze data, implement strategic initiatives, and oversee daily activities to ensure business objectives are met. Strong problem-solving skills and experience with management tools are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Operating Partner, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Operating Partner, you need a strong background in business management, strategic planning, and operational improvement, often supported by an MBA or equivalent experience. Familiarity with financial modeling tools, ERP systems, and performance analytics platforms is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help build trust and drive change across portfolio companies. These capabilities are vital for delivering value creation, optimizing operations, and achieving growth targets in private equity or investment environments.

Regular collaboration includes participating in leadership meetings, guiding key initiatives, and leveraging their network to provide resources or expertise. This partnership is highly collaborative and focused on driving value creation across the portfolio.

Job description

THE ROLE

We're Everpure-the company reinventing storage and data management as a living system so organizations can unleash the power of their data in the AI era.

To fuel this next chapter, we're looking for a Director, Planning and Performance for the Global Partner Organization who is equal parts strategist, operator, and change-maker. This is not a maintenance role. This leader will serve as the operating partner to the VP of the Global Partner Organization, helping drive alignment, execution, rigor, and follow-through across a complex, fast-moving team.

This role is for someone who can bring order, judgment, and momentum to ambiguous problems, and who knows how to orchestrate work across multiple leaders without needing formal authority over every outcome. In many cases, this person will not be the sole doer-they will be the coordinator, connector, and closer who ensures the right work happens, by the right people, at the right time.

The impact of this role will be significant. This person will help drive closer alignment and unity across the team, increase operating productivity, represent the Global Partner Organization in the right forums, and reduce the number of balls dropped by bringing stronger planning discipline, follow-through, and preparation into the business cadence.

We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara office in compliance with Everpure's policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Drive business rhythm and execution
  • Act as the orchestrator and closer for high-priority initiatives that require coordination across multiple leaders in the Global Partner Organization.
  • Bring structure, follow-up, and disciplined execution to the VP's priorities so initiatives move from discussion to decision to completion.
  • Build and run the operating cadence for the business, including QSR planning, leadership reviews, key checkpoints, and follow-through on actions.
  • Ensure the VP and leadership team are prepared for critical moments, including webinars, videos, media interviews, steering committees, executive reviews, and other high-visibility engagements.
  • Get ahead of deadlines and dependencies so materials are developed with quality and intention-not finished minutes before presentation.
Increase alignment across leaders and teams
  • Partner closely with leaders across the Global Partner Organization to create clarity on priorities, owners, dependencies, and timelines.
  • Drive alignment and execution of business plans across cross-functional stakeholders and partner teams.
  • Serve as connective tissue across the organization, ensuring decisions are socialized, actions are tracked, and teams stay in sync.
  • Help create greater unity across the GPO leadership team by reinforcing shared priorities, common operating principles, and accountability.
Represent the Global Partner Organization
  • Represent the VP and the Global Partner Organization in meetings where leadership presence is needed but the session does not require the VP directly or is not the best fit for another leader.
  • Act as a credible proxy and business representative in cross-functional forums, ensuring the team is informed, well-represented, and connected to broader decisions and changes.
  • Maintain close engagement with peers in similar business operations, strategy, and chief-of-staff-like roles across other functions to keep the organization in the loop and effectively represented.
Lead planning, metrics, and operational rigor
  • Define and manage operational metrics, dashboards, and reporting to measure business performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Partner with leaders to define KPIs, team goals, and success measures, including ownership and tracking in Workday where appropriate.
  • Help the organization use data-driven insights and recommendations to inform decisions, spot risks early, and improve execution quality.
  • Support QSR planning and scorecard discipline so the business has a consistent and credible view of progress, gaps, and actions.
  • Build mechanisms that improve preparedness, follow-through, and accountability across the leadership team.
Shape communications and content
  • Partner with the Enablement team and other key stakeholders to develop content for all hands and other internal leadership communications.
  • Nurture the sense of community across the One Partner Team, through communication, activities, and facilitating leadership outreach.
  • Help translate strategy, priorities, and progress into clear, actionable narratives for leaders and teams.
  • Ensure communications and materials are aligned, well-timed, and fit for audience and purpose.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 12+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, chief of staff, program management, or a related operating role.
  • Experience supporting senior executives and leading cross-functional initiatives in a global, matrixed environment.
  • Track record of improving operating cadence, execution discipline, and team alignment.
  • Experience with KPI definition, dash-boarding, goal-setting, and business review preparation.
  • Experience partnering with sales, partner, go-to-market, enablement, finance, or operations teams is strongly preferred.
