Description
This is a casual position. A casual is a non-benefit eligible position that is not guaranteed any hours but can pick up open shifts.
Purpose of Job:
This position is responsible for the delivery of individualized patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and Practice as defined by Ridgeview Medical Center, the Minnesota Nurse Practice Standards Act, and the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
Job Functions
  1. Assesses patient health problem needs and develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans accordingly.
  2. Provides nursing care.
  3. Advises and educates patients, family members and significant others on health maintenance and disease prevention for the patient.
  4. Documents and maintains accurate medical records and reports.
  5. Participates and maintains accurate medical records and reports.
  6. Serves as a patient advocate in seeking appropriate community resources to meet patient needs.
  7. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers, other healthcare providers, and colleagues to enhance own professional nursing practice.
  8. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Operating Room.
  9. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers, other health professionals and colleagues to enhance own professional nursing practice and the professional practice of other.
  10. Ability to adapt to changes within the care environment while keeping focus on exceptional patient care and positive outcomes.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
When functioning as a Charge Nurse
  1. Manages flow of patients through inpatient and/or outpatient departments.
  2. Assigns resources to care for patients and arranges staffing to ensure safe patient care.
  3. Provides work direction and addresses issues during the shift.
  4. Acts as a liaison between staff, patients, and physicians.
  5. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Operating Room.
  6. Review Physician orders.

Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
  • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
License/Certifications
  • Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)
  • Previous RN experience in Medical/Surgical or Perioperative Nursing

Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation such as: the requirements of the position, experience, education, knowledge, and skills along with location and internal equity. Pay listed does not include any shift, weekend, or other differentials.
