Job description

Structural Engineer

Your Role at BSI

A key member of our Civil/Structural team, the Structural Engineer possesses strong knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design in industrial settings. They perform necessary calculations and ensure that the structural scope of our design packages follows client and industry standards. The ideal candidate works well in a team environment, has experience working with multi-discipline teams, and strives to provide quality designs to our clients.

To support collaboration, mentorship opportunities, and effective project execution, BSI Engineering has adopted a hybrid work schedule in which employees are in the office a minimum of three days per week.


Responsibilities and Scope

  • Gathers field data and inspects sites and structures to evaluate existing conditions when necessary
  • With minimal supervision, performs and ensures all calculations and design efforts to prepare deliverables
  • Ensures structural design is accurate and coordinated within the model and drawings
  • Coordinates and communicates with designers on projects and establishes clear direction
  • Writes project-based documents including, but not limited to: studies, project notes, scope, close-out reports
  • Selects appropriate construction materials
  • Obtains plans and building regulation approvals
  • Coordinates with outside consultants and contractors when required (geotechnical engineers, construction contractors, etc.)
  • Participates in construction support, startup, and commissioning efforts
  • Follows the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards, ensuring quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables
  • Establishes and manages their own engineering schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
  • Signs off on drawing packages if PE License is obtained

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a Structural Engineering role designing structures in steel, concrete, masonry, and/or wood
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering or related field
  • Skilled with Risa-3D
  • Familiar with necessary codes, including but not limited to: IBC, ASCE, ACI 318, AISC, and NDS
  • Competent in selecting construction materials, construction methods, and industry standards
  • Strong structural analysis experience, including 3D and solid finite element modeling
  • PE license preferred
