Reporting Manager: General Superintendent

Entity: Donegal Construction Corporation

Job Location: Within and Throughout the State of New York

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour dependent upon applicable New York State Prevailing Wage Rates

Benefit Package: Upon satisfactory completion of training, this position will transfer to a union affiliated position with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 832, and therefore be the beneficiary of applicable union based offerings (medical, dental and vision coverage, pension and defined contribution funding, apprenticeship training, and more)

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Operator position serves as a key participant in the interaction between the Company (and other crew members), other contractors and our customers. The position is responsible for operating a variety of equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including milling equipment and other related machinery. May provide guidance to other crew members at job sites. Also ensures the safety of crew members via communicating and enforcing Company safety programs/policies/practices as well as OSHA and other related regulatory requirements.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

ยท May participate in project review and job planning meetings.

ยท Responsible for control and operation of one or more types of milling equipment.

ยท Operates milling equipment (Milling Machine or Cold Planer) to properly mill asphalt/concrete to desired specification needs per each job.

ยท Manipulates hand levers to control movements of milling machine that mills asphalt, concrete, stone or dirt on roadways and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, highways, etc.

ยท Communicates with crew while on the job site, including the use of radios, hand signals, or other necessary forms of communication.

ยท Works in an efficient and effective manner on a variety of projects at various stages of work to ensure the accurate completion of the project.

ยท Interacts with customers by way of introductions at the beginning of a job, answering questions, responding to customer requests, making reasonable changes to the plan, and providing a walk-throughs as necessary.

ยท May guide and direct activities of Ground Crew / Laborers and other assigned crew members ensuring jobs are completed in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.

ยท Performs daily equipment inspections and safety check to identify hazards, defects, necessary adjustments and repairs. Diagnoses, and corrects malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and/or components using appropriate testing equipment and/or tools.

ยท Performs routine maintenance, including greasing the machine, changing cutting edges, carbide teeth, changing oil, air filter replacements, etc.).

ยท Reports non-routine problems and/or repair requirements to Foreman, Superintendent or Shop Manager/Mechanics.

ยท Creates and maintains a positive work culture.

ยท Ensures compliance with the Companyโ€™s policies and procedures.

ยท Actively participates in safety/incident investigations, completion of first reports of injury, workersโ€™ compensation claims management, modified duty assignments, etc.

ยท Maintains ability to work overtime, nights and weekends particularly during the high season.

ยท Maintains ability to travel up to 100% of time to various job sites, possibly including extended overnight stays.

ยท Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

ยท Complete special projects as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

ยท High school diploma or GED equivalent.

ยท Working knowledge of heavy equipment, processes, and safety protocols.

ยท Valid CDL (Class A, B or C) and acceptable motor vehicle record preferred.

ยท Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) and current OSHA rules and regulations and ensuring compliance with these guidelines.

ยท Ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather and under various working conditions.

ยท Proven effective oral and written communication skills, job planning skills and mechanical aptitude are a must.

ยท Ability to work long hours outdoors and will be on their feet all day while either walking or standing.

ยท Ability to work Monday through Sunday and overtime as required (including irregular hours, out of town work, overnight stays, weekends and holidays).

ยท Demonstrated skills in the care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work.

ยท Reliable work ethic; regular attendance is required.

ยท Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds with co-workers, vendors, and subcontractors at all levels.

ยท Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all departmental matters.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

ยท Must tolerate working environment with outside temperatures that include excessive heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.

ยท Must be able to work outside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.

ยท Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 75 pounds to an overhead position.

ยท Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and twist body.

ยท Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

ยท Must be able to use both hands and demonstrate good hand-eye coordination.

ยท Tolerance to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.

ยท Potentially exposed to contaminants, such as dust or fumes from exhaust; frequent exposure to hazardous equipment.

ยท Occasionally work in very bright or very dim lighting conditions.

ยท Are sometimes exposed to hazardous situations that produce cuts or minor burns.

ยท Occasionally are exposed to whole body vibration, such as when using a jackhammer.

ยท May need to work in tight/confined spaces or work areas.

ยท Must be able to regularly wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety goggles, safety vests and/or ear plugs.
