JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut (UConn) Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Systems Administrator 2 to serve as an AI Administrator supporting the University's enterprise artificial intelligence platforms and services. This position is responsible for the administration, governance, security coordination, operational support, and user enablement of centrally supported AI services, including Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Microsoft Azure AI Services, and related AI platforms and integrations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position is an in-person position at the Storrs campus, with the option for several days remote per week.
  • Administer enterprise AI services, including Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, and other centrally supported AI tools and services.
  • Configure and maintain AI platform settings, administrative consoles, workspace settings, feature availability, model access options, connectors, plugins, agents, and related service controls.
  • Manage AI service lifecycle activities, including platform onboarding, configuration changes, release updates, service health monitoring, incident coordination, vendor escalations, and operational communications.
  • Monitor service availability, adoption, utilization, feature usage, support trends, and platform performance using available administrative dashboards, reports, logs, and analytics.
  • Participate in small-to-medium AI service projects from planning through implementation, ensuring reliable operations, appropriate documentation, and alignment with institutional requirements.
  • Collaborate with information security, privacy, compliance, legal, procurement, accessibility, and data governance stakeholders to ensure AI services are configured and operated in accordance with University expectations.
  • Assist faculty, staff, students, and researchers in understanding how to use supported AI tools effectively, responsibly, and securely.
  • Conduct or assist with workshops, office hours, consultations, demonstrations, and training sessions on Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and related AI services.
  • Develop and maintain user-facing documentation, FAQs, quick-start guides, training materials, responsible-use guidance, support scripts, and knowledge base articles for AI services.
  • Provide consultation to departments and units on selecting the appropriate supported AI tool for their use case, understanding data handling requirements, and identifying when additional review or approval is needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Eight (8) years of directly related IT experience, OR Associate's degree in a relevant field plus six (6) years of related experience, OR Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus four (4) years of related experience.
  2. Experience administering enterprise IT systems, cloud services, SaaS applications, collaboration platforms, identity-integrated services, or other centrally managed technology services.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI, ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Azure AI services, or comparable AI-enabled enterprise platforms.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of information security, privacy, data protection, compliance, and risk management concepts as they apply to enterprise applications and cloud services.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of generative AI tools and enterprise AI service concepts, including common use cases, limitations, data handling risks, user enablement needs, and responsible AI practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience administering Microsoft 365 services, Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, SharePoint, Teams, or related Microsoft enterprise administration tools.
  2. Experience administering or supporting OpenAI ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, Anthropic Claude Enterprise, Claude for Education, or comparable enterprise AI platforms.
  3. Experience with Azure AI services, Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Services, Azure Monitor, Azure Policy, Azure RBAC, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Sentinel, or Azure Cost Management.
  4. Experience with AI platform governance, responsible AI practices, acceptable use guidance, AI risk assessment, AI service intake, or enterprise AI operating models.
  5. Experience supporting higher education technology environments, research computing, academic technology, student-facing services, or enterprise services in a university setting.
  6. Experience or demonstrated familiarity with AI security topics such as prompt injection, data leakage, model misuse, connector risk, oversharing, content safety, auditability, and human oversight.
