Software Development Manager

Location: Office-Based / Hybrid – Philadelphia


Position Summary:

Bentley is creating an open platform for the built and natural environment to empower software developers to build digital twin experiences. We believe in advancing the platform for the collective success of the ecosystem and equipping the software developer community with open source and open standards.
This management role reports to and collaborates closely with the Head of Software Engineering to empower Bentley’s platform software development teams to do their best work and continuously ship meaningful software that impacts the world and our business.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support engineers, fostering trust, autonomy, and high performance.
  • Establish the processes and systems that enable continuous delivery of high-quality software.
  • Promote openness and teamwork across teams and with the open-source community.
  • Partner with the Head of Engineering on hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance growth.
  • Work with Product Management and the DCTO to deliver the roadmap on a scalable architecture.

Qualifications:

  • Proven engineering leader focused on team health, culture, and execution rather than individual technical contribution.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, including leadership of distributed engineering teams.
  • High emotional intelligence with a transparent, collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical, business, and executive audiences.
  • Leadership experience building developer platforms, APIs, libraries, or technical standards. Bonus experience with open-source platforms, geospatial and digital twin technologies, 3D visualization, AECO workflows, or cross-platform architectures.
  • This role requires minimal travel.
  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements).
