An open interview, also known as a walk-in interview, is a hiring event where employers invite job seekers to attend without a prior appointment. Candidates can show up at a specified location and time to meet with hiring managers, often for immediate consideration. Open interviews are commonly used for positions that need to be filled quickly or require large numbers of staff, such as in retail or hospitality. Applicants may participate in on-the-spot interviews and may even receive job offers the same day. It's important for candidates to bring their resumes and be prepared for a brief interview process.

What is an open interview?

An open interview is a group hiring event that allows a job seeker the opportunity to meet the employer and go through an interview on the spot. Employers often give job offers by the end of the event, which can help reduce wait times during a job search. Open interviews are competitive, but companies often use them when they have many positions to fill and want to hire multiple applicants at the same time, so it is possible to get hired at an open interview even if someone else is the best individual candidate. Most open interviews are common for for retail or seasonal positions rather than corporate roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an open interview?

To succeed in an open interview, candidates should possess a solid understanding of the company’s industry, relevant job experience, and the basic qualifications required for the desired role. Familiarity with common interview platforms, applicant tracking systems, and the ability to present a well-prepared resume are often beneficial. Strong communication, confidence, and adaptability help individuals stand out in a group setting where first impressions matter. These skills are crucial because open interviews are highly competitive and require candidates to make a quick, positive impact with limited time to showcase their abilities.

How can I make a strong impression during an open interview?

During an open interview, you'll likely meet with several interviewers and possibly other candidates in a more fast-paced, group environment. To stand out, come prepared with a concise introduction, clear examples of your skills, and thoughtful questions about the company and role. Dress professionally, bring multiple copies of your resume, and be ready to complete any on-the-spot assessments. Remember to engage respectfully with both staff and fellow candidates, as teamwork and communication are often evaluated in these settings.

Job description

Housekeeper

The Amaya – Fort Wayne, Indiana

Most hotels hire people to clean rooms.

At The Amaya, housekeeping is one of the most important roles in the hotel.

We believe guests begin relaxing the moment they open the door to their room. That feeling doesn't happen by accident - it comes from someone who takes pride in creating clean, organized, and thoughtfully prepared spaces.

Our housekeepers are custodians of the guest experience. Every detail contributes to helping guests feel calm, comfortable, and cared for.

What Success Looks Like

Guests describe The Amaya as:

  • Spotless

  • Relaxing

  • Quiet

  • Comfortable

  • A sanctuary

Your work helps create that experience.

Every perfectly prepared room tells a guest:

"You've arrived somewhere that has been thoughtfully prepared for you."

That feeling comes from hundreds of small details done consistently well.

Compensation
  • Competitive compensation based on experience, quality of work, and attention to detail.

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities available.

  • Weekend and holiday availability required.

Interview Process

Selected applicants will participate in a practical room walkthrough. Rather than relying only on traditional interview questions, we'll ask you to walk through a guest room and tell us what you notice before a guest arrives. We may also discuss how you would organize your workday to maintain exceptional quality while working efficiently. We believe the best housekeepers demonstrate their skills through observation, organization, pride in their work, and an efficient, well-planned workflow. If creating beautiful, organized spaces gives you genuine satisfaction, we'd love to meet you.

Compensation:

$18 - $22 hourly

Responsibilities:What You'll Do

Your responsibilities include:

  • Clean guest rooms and bathrooms to an exceptional standard

  • Make beds and prepare rooms for arriving guests

  • Restock towels, amenities, and guest supplies

  • Inspect your own work before leaving each room

  • Assist with laundry and linen organization

  • Maintain an organized housekeeping cart and work area

  • Report maintenance concerns promptly

  • Help keep public spaces clean and welcoming

  • Support teammates when needed

Qualifications:Who You Are

You naturally take pride in doing things well.

You might be someone who:

  • Notices details others overlook

  • Likes things to be clean and organized

  • Finds satisfaction in creating order

  • Takes ownership of your work

  • Finishes what you start

  • Works efficiently without cutting corners

  • Believes consistency matters

You don't need someone constantly checking your work because your own standards are already high.
You understand that exceptional housekeeping isn't just about cleaning - it's about creating a consistently excellent experience through quality, organization, and efficiency.
